Simple things are worth blogging about
6 Aug
How has the search engines been treating you? I have felt blessed with various links from this blog and other blogs of mine, getting a lot of high placements in the search engines. I don’t have any patterns or special tips from an SEO company, for my achievements in the search engine game. I pretty much just stay active and try to provide the best quality of content possible. Adding new content frequently and content that has some substance has worked well for me lately. This wasn’t always the case and a few years ago, I had a hard time working my way up the search engine ladders.
A new webmaster wants or expects instant success with their links, anchor texts, or keywords ranked high in the major search engines. Don’t expect to catch lightning in a bottle with your first blog post or your first week with a brand new website. It takes the search engine bots time to recognize your newly created website online and just getting indexed is the first step. Depending on how common your niche or topic is; will depend on where your new website gets placed to begin with. Don’t expect miracles on day 1, week 1, or even in your first month. These things can take time and sometimes it’s months for a new website to earn it’s true rankings in the various online search engines.
Driving traffic to your new website or exchanging links with fellow webmasters is not what the new webmasters of the world need to focus on. These are steps you can do later on in your goals to be listed on the first page or to have an overall top spot for a certain keyword or key phrase. I would only concern myself with new and original content for the first few weeks. Create a little substance to your website, before you try to lure extra traffic your way.
No one knows for sure what search engine does what and which things they focus on the most. All of the tips and online advice gets passed around so much, that if too many people use these tips, the search engines will make corrections. So try to create your own path to search engine success. Avoid spending money on an SEO company that promises to have your website listed on the first page in one week or less. They may be able to do this in some cases, but getting on the first page is not that hard of a task. Staying on top or keeping your website listed on the first page is the hard part and no SEO company or search engine optimization service will be able to do this for you. It will depend on the quality of the content on each website; which will ultimately decide on who stays or who goes.
Please feel free to share your success stories. Let me know which anchor text or keywords you worked with and was able to land on the first page at Google, Yahoo, MSN (Bing), or some other well known search engine. There is really only 3 major search engines and the others aren’t really that big of a deal, when it comes to getting indexed and ranked highly on the first page. What methods, tips, or steps did you take in order to get a positive reaction from one of the big 3 search engine companies. Do you feel like your listing will stay visible on the first page for Internet users to find your website?
If you have had a negative experience with the search engine game, please share your stories too. We all can’t win in this online game and for every winner out there, we must have a lot of losers in this high tech game. We all can’t be ranked number 1 or even on the first page. Someone has to fill up the spots on the 2nd page or further down. The search engines do their best to provide the best websites first, but sometimes they do make mistakes. Someone who has a better understanding of the SEO game, can do better than a webmaster who provides better content on his or her website. I believe in the long run, quality will always out last the folks who try the quick methods for success online. Just be patient and be sure you are providing your audience with the best possible information you can and the numbers will speak for their self down the road. I wish you luck for today, tomorrow, and in the future for your online goals to work on the World Wide Web.
