I’m sure some of you have waited for hours and hours for a certain concert ticket to go on sale. Most people have a list of favorite singers or bands, they would do anything to see. Even if it means standing in the ticket line for hours or in some cases days. Well I have never camped out over night in a line, waiting for a concert ticket to be sold. I did make sure I was at the music store early, when I heard Def Leppard Tickets were going on sale in Atlanta, Georgia. I was prepared to do the over night thing and bring a sleeping bag to hold my place in line, but my friends told me other wise. They assured me a couple of hours in advance would be plenty of time to get tickets for Def Leppard. This wasn’t during their most popular days; when they were singing “pour some sugar on me”. This was about 7 or 8 years after their big hits from the late 80′s decade.

I arrived at the music store; which use to be called Turtles, but they don’t exist anymore. You always had to go to Turtles to buy the best tickets for concerts, sports, plays, or Houston Rodeo Tickets. I was the first person to show up at Turtles, to begin the ticket line outside of the store. I went to the front door and sat down and begin to wait. It was about 2 hours before the store was going to open up, so I didn’t have too long of a wait.

Soon others began to fall behind me and it got up to about 60 Def Leppard fans, waiting to buy a ticket as the store was about to open. I had got acquainted with the ladies in line with me and a good thing I did. After all of that time waiting in line, the store manager came out to say, we would be drawing numbers to see who gets to buy the first Def Leppard tickets. This was a big disappointment for me and especially since I was first in line.

Well as luck would have it, I got to reach in first and I pulled out a real high number. I don’t even think I was in the top 50. However, the lady right behind me drew out number 1. She was only going to buy 2 tickets for herself, so me and another stranger in line each got her to buy our tickets for us. There was a 6 ticket limit, but all 3 of us wanted 2 tickets a piece, so it worked out great!

I was so excited. The two concert tickets cost me $51 and some change. I gave the lady who bought my tickets for me, three 20 dollar bills ($60) and told her to just keep the change. It was the least I could do for her. I don’t know how friendly people are who buy Christina Aguilera Tickets or any other tickets for music stars, but the Def Leppard fans rule!

Now that Turtles music store no longer exists and the days of the Internet are here, people just have to click their mouses for great tickets. If you want to get Celtic Woman Tickets and you know they will sell out fast. You just have to be online and ready to order them, when they first become available. We don’t have to stand in those long lines anymore at the old-style shopping centers. I think some music fans probably miss the days of waiting in line and camping out over night. Maybe a special event will come along one day and pay tribute to these old-fashion ways of buying tickets and allow fans to wait in line again. I don’t know if you can buy lottery tickets online, but you can buy Family Values Tour Tickets online and about any other type of ticket you can think of.

In case anybody was wondering on where I actually got to sit at the concert, I can easily tell you that. Even though we got our tickets as soon as they appeared for sale, we didn’t get first row seats. Our seats were in the 2nd row at Philips Arena in Atlanta, but they were just as good as the front row. It was a great concert and Def Leppard brung the house down, as always!

How many folks currently belong to the 50 day diet club? I am guessing not many. If you haven’t heard about this exclusive club, it only takes place 1 day a year. Today is that day and this is the 50th day. Now do you know what I am talking about? The View recently brought a good topic up, when they were discussing their hot topics for the day. A few weeks ago, most of us learned about a boy who got in trouble at school, for saying bad things about his teacher online. This California student was on Facebook; while he called his current teacher “fat” and some other negative comments. He apparently gave the teacher’s name and the school he was attending. For his actions, this student did get in trouble, but should he have? Please let me know your opinion about students making negative remarks online about a specific person or a teacher at their school. Does these students have any constitutional rights, to say what they want to online?

I remember the school rules at my school were a lot like our state and federal laws. We had some school teachers who allowed chewing gum in class; while other teachers did not allow gum to be chewed in their classrooms. I look at this school rule as a state law and how it varies from state to state or teacher to teacher in this example. Now smoking was not allowed in any classroom or on the school grounds, so this was more like a federal law. No teacher could allow their students to smoke in their class, because it was a school rule that didn’t allow smoking for any circumstances; while a student was on the school grounds. Should we only allow the schools to discipline our child while they are at school and what they do at home is up to the parents? A parent could let their child smoke at home, but this doesn’t mean these students can smoke at school. Most of us get that, but where do you draw the line, when it comes to negative comments online, at a popular social networking site like Facebook?

So we know how this story ended and the child did receive punishment from the school system. Now we fast forward to the present day and we now have a teacher practically doing the same thing. The ABC TV Show called The View touched on this topic briefly and compared the two stories. This latest incident happened in Pennsylvania with a school teacher, who was making negative comments about her students in general and she did this on her own private blog. Even though a blog may be private to the blog owner, it is still public information in most cases. Blog owners can posts on their blogs; while keeping them private. You would have to have a special password to login and read the private posts. Most bloggers don’t do this and they will publish all their posts for everybody and anybody to see.

There are differences in these two stories, but a lot of folks will not look at the differences. They will just see a student talking bad about a teacher and a teacher talking bad about her students. They will want to draw conclusions from these two main points, without digger deeper into the two stories. To be fair to everyone, I think we do have to point out the differences, but I won’t say which one is better and which one is worse.

The California student used a public website called Facebook. This is a very popular website that has millions and millions of members and users everyday. I have no idea how popular and how much traffic the Pennsylvania school teacher’s blog got, but I think its safe to assume it was far less than the number of people who visit Facebook each day. So the school teacher went to a website that was less traveled on and it was her own personal website. As a member of Facebook, you don’t own the site in any way. A Facebook user has very little control over what the rules and design of the Facebook website will look like. Each Facebook member can control their own space or webpage within the Facebook neighborhood. There is a little freedom at Facebook, but it is relatively low in comparison to a blogger, who creates and designs their own blog from start to finish. I don’t know if the teacher had a blog on her own domain name, but I do think that is something to look at. A free blog or a blog within a huge social networking website, would basically be the same thing, as having a Facebook account. A blog on its own domain, would be more special, more private, and it would seem to give the blogger a little more freedom on what can or can’t be said on their website. If you have a blog on a free blog service, like Blogger.com for instance, you still have to follow some rules or you can lose your free blogger account. No rules to follow, if you pay for a domain each month and hosts your own blog.

I will give a little lead way in the teacher’s case, because she was posting on a blog and not a social networking website. Even though her blog, may be hosted in a place that gets a lot of daily visitors. I will also give the teacher a bonus point for not mentioning any specific names in her online venting. Overall, I really think the school system is limited in what they can do to this school teacher. I believe the Pennsylvania school teacher who blogs online, is only exercising her first amendment rights. Most may not agree with what she has to say, but it is her opinion and everyone should respect that.

Now with that said, I really think the California school system made a critical error in punishing the boy, who said negative things about his teacher on Facebook. For years and years, students have gathered at school and away from school to talk bad about a teacher. This is nothing new! What is new, is our technology for communicating in the 21st century. The students have a lot more ways with cell phones, Facebook, and tweeting through Twitter to express their feelings much faster; than what they could 10 years ago. Not only do the students reach a bigger audience, but they also reach folks who have no business reading what they say. Just because you can read someone’s comments online, doesn’t mean you have the right to reply and intervene as you please.

The California school system is walking a thin-line by not allowing students to speak up. If a teacher was abusing a student, we would want the student to make a stand and say negative things about their teacher then. Just because we can see this specific case is not serious, does not mean we have the right to punish the student for it. I don’t think any school system in America could police these laws or rules fully, so you must not enforce what you can’t enforce equally. Schools can do whatever they want when the student is on their property or if they use their property to send out these hateful words to the World Wide Web. If a student is at home and chooses to use their own private computers for saying such harsh words, it’s really not the school’s business. The student was not threatening the teacher. The student was not making direct comments on her blog or sending her attacks via email, Twitter, or Facebook (directly). The school system has over-stepped their boundaries and involved their self with a topic that was not intended for them or a part of their business. Just because you mention a specific person’s name, does not give that person a right to comment or make a judgement about it. Only if a person is within ear-sound or receives the message directly, should they be allowed any freedoms of action.

One more thing. Now the students are alerted to your “police force” reading their messages on Facebook or online in general, so the next time they have something bad to say, they will do it in a way that doesn’t get read by the school or other responsible adults. Perhaps a group of students will plan a day where they cause trouble or attack other students and will not announce this over the Facebook wire. They will go where they know they have privacy and leave adults, teachers, and the police no access to their criminal behaviors. A teacher being called “fat” is rude, but its not the first time this have ever happened in a school system. If a teacher is carrying around more weight, than he or she should, they can expect remarks like these. In a way, its good we have the World Wide Web for students to speak freely, so these professional teachers are held to a much higher standard. Teachers should be held accountable for their actions and the Internet is a great tool to insure that.

Sure, there will be some students who have no right to say what they do online. If these teachers are worth their weight in gold (like they should be) then other students will arrive on the Internet scene to take up for these teachers. Let’s let the students have the World Wide Web and let the adults to have the silent power in the background. The student in California actually has laws that protect them and the school system is going to find out about all of these laws very soon, if they haven’t already.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck and The View did a great job by bringing up this educational Internet debate. It is a hard topic to answer in just a 5 or 10 minute segment, but I thought they should have at least gave their own personal opinions about this controversial topic. Natalie Munroe is the school teacher in question and her blog has been highly sought over the past week. I can’t find her original posts online, but she had dozens of posts, by her own acclaims. She does have two new blog posts up and they are both worth reading. She points out the details well and how this story broke in her world. She has cleverly titled two new blog posts, where her original blog was located: Bloggate – Day 1 and Bloggate – Part 2 Both posts were interesting to read and I recommend checking them out.

I think we are only seeing the start of the school systems battling the other world that takes place online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. As for now, the Federal Laws have already stated, back in November of 2010; that the Facebook updates page, does fall under the protection laws and it is protected speech. So for any students or teachers who are reading this blog post now, you do have a federal agency giving you some protection as a member of Facebook. Hopefully these freedom of speech laws will reach all the way across the Web and everyone will have the right to say and speak freely online. Everyone must remember this. At the end of the day, when all the dust has settled and nothing else is being said, the online blogger will always have the last word!

School systems should really think about providing lockers to all school kids. Back when I was in school, we didn’t get school lockers until the 9th grade or high school level. A lot of things have changed since then. Back during this time, a digital calculator was about the most expensive thing a student carried and most students didn’t have this at school. Now the Internet is here, along with a wide assortment of high-tech gadgets, a lot of school kids do bring to school. While most schools don’t like cell phones, students still bring them to school for emergency purposes. A cell phone is a good example of why kids need secured lockers at school. Or at least a place to store their belongings, where another adult or teacher can oversee them.

The lockers for kids don’t exist in most of the lower grade levels. This means the smaller kids have to carry around all of their personal school supplies. This can cause a lot of added pressure or stress on the younger students. If they had a locker, in which they could store their own personal crayons, markers, notebook paper, pencils, pens, and other school related items, they wouldn’t have to keep all of these things at their desk. By allowing the children to store their things in a locker, it would help to tech them what things to get now and which things can be got later. It’s a big transition in high school, when you have to learn these “responsibility” lessons for the first time. Students could be more prepared for high school, if locker-training was developed in the lower grade levels.

No grade is too soon for kids to begin with lockers. It really isn’t expensive for schools to buy childrens lockers. It is something that can be used year after year and they don’t wear out. It’s a one-time educational costs. Most kids would be excited to have their own lockers or personal space at school. It gives them a sense of privacy and a place where they can store all their valuables. A personal locker for each student also allows them the freedom to decorate it too. Teachers could allow students to bring pictures or create artwork for their own locker spaces. The teachers also have the ability to enforce a clean locker space, so students are learning another responsibility lesson in cleanliness. I just really see a lot of upside for kids lockers, with very few downsides. If technology continues to produce these costly educational gadgets, every school will have to come up with a more secure environment for students. I believe the cheapest way to start enforcing these measures, with our modern educational system, is to set up lockers for every student in the first grade and beyond.

For anyone who has been outside recently, knows that the winter season is still here. The calendar does tell us it won’t be much longer, until all of this cold weather disappears and the warm days of spring will appear. A lot of merchants know that winter is quickly fading into a warmer weather pattern and they are looking to make room for their warm-weather items. This is a good time to find discounts on those winter items, so you will have them for next year. Not many people will be using a heated blanket this summer. If you buy one now, you will be glad you did, when the cold weather returns at the end of the year. I have found these electric blankets to wear out over time. The less you use them, the better they seem to be about warming up. You want a heated blanket on the bed to be real warm and it must warm up quickly. After a couple of years, they seem to lose a bit of their heating abilities. So in general, you want a new electric blanket every 1 to 3 years. People who wait for the fall season or early winter to buy these special blankets, they will be paying a premium price for them. Consumers could save a lot more money on blankets, if they would order them now or during the warmer months of the year.

This is a good shopping tip, for those people who love to save money, when they go out shopping. As a fisherman, I can tell you the prices on bait, rods, and reels will begin increasing now. People who love to fish have missed their window for finding the fishing discounts. Fishermen need to survey the stores and other places, which sell fishing supplies, during the late summer and fall seasons. This is when the fishing merchants will be cutting the biggest discounts for fishing gear. So don’t buy anything related to fishing now, but do look for those things that help us to stay warm, like a good electric blanket does!

Do you like to watch and play sports? Have you ever made a bet on a sporting event with your buddies? If you have, you may have had a little trouble collecting your winnings. He may just be the best NFL quarterback we have seen in this league, since Brett Favre was taking snaps in the brutally cold temperatures of Wisconsin. Not many teams or NFL players look forward to a 3 hour football game in the Packers own football stadium. Most would not like the trip for the cold temperatures; while other NFL defenses would be shivering for a different reason. Does Aaron Rodgers really bring this much fear to the professional football game?

Now, if Aaron Rodgers is not the top dawg in the NFL today, then which talented QB is the best? We saw some good names you could look at in Hawaii yesterday. The Pro Bowl game between the AFC and NFC was a good chance to see all of the brightest quarterbacks in the game today, with the exception of Aaron Rodgers, who is waiting for next Sunday’s Super Bowl Game match up.

Last year’s Super Bowl winner was the New Orleans Saints. They were led to the championship title with their star QB Drew Brees. He use to play for the San Diego Chargers, where now Philip Riversis the Chargers quarterback. It’s not like the San Diego football team made a mistake, by letting Brees go to the NFC and the Saints football team. Philip Rivers was the starting quarterback for the AFC Team in the Pro Bowl yesterday. So the Chargers NFL team has been blessed with two very good quarterbacks, while some teams would just love to have one star-studded NFL QB. If you’re going to talk about the best QB in the NFL today, you would have to put Drew Brees on that list, with Philip Rivers just behind him.

Most will agree that Peyton Manning is the best quarterback of all time. The question about Manning, is he still good enough now, to be the best 2011 NFL quarterback? A lot of questions and debates could come up here, but I think we will just say Peyton Manning is not a top 3 quarterback in the game today. He is in the same boat as Tom Brady. We all know Brady was once a great QB, but not anymore. The days of Tom Brady are over and the Patriots are really kicking their self now, for letting go of Randy Moss, who is still the best wide receiver in the NFL.

Young studs like Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons and Joe Flaccofor the Ravens have not been around long enough. They could still be the top QB in 2011, but since neither is in the Super Bowl 45 game, we can rule both of these great QB’s out. I do think the Falcons have made a lot of big time mistakes with Matt Ryan. They tried to win football games, before developing their future star QB. If the Falcons would have focused on the development of Matt Ryan and not worried about winning football games, we could have easily seen Matt Ryan as the top dawg this year. The Falcons team did not do Ryan any favors either, by not bringing in some great wide receivers. The Atlanta Falcons actually see Roddy White as a great receiver and his 115 receptions they believe is proof, since this led the league. Wake up Atlanta! Other wide receivers are gaining extra yards after the catch and taking the ball to the house (endzone, touchdown, 6 points, etc...). White got so many receptions, because he was just moving the chains and not the scoreboard, like other elite receivers in the League do. Roddy White is NOT a top 10 wider receiver!

Just like the San Diego Chargershaving two great QB’s, the Falcons have had Matt Ryan and Michael Vick in the same decade and have yet been allowed to suit up on Super Bowl Sunday. The Chargers actually had the top overall pick in the Vick draft, before they traded it away to the Atlanta Falcons. Vick is certainly a quarterback that is up there with Aaron Rodgers. Due to the fact Vick was not a starter, becasue of the old and out-dated coaching fashions that take place in the NFL year after year. The Philadelphia Eagles head coach would not allow a contest to see who is best quarterback was before the season started. This caused the Eagles football team to rely on their 2nd best player, like so many other NFL teams do every Sunday. Decisions get made too early and NFL coaches do not recognize players improving and becoming better. If they would breakdown their teams each week and allow all jobs to be open each week, we would see an NFL team go to the Super Bowl, simply because they played their best 11 guys on offense or the best 11 guys on defense. The Eagles Coach is just like all the other over paid men in the NFL and it took an injury for his team to find the best QB or best player for the job.

Now as far as the best 2011 quarterback this year. I took several categories and based each one on a points system. I thought going in, that Michael Vick would have the best rating. To my surprise, this is how the current NFL quarterbacks rank. These points do cast a future shadow and will show us which current quarterbacks will be shinning the brightest, when the 2011 football season kicks off in the fall of 2011.

Only one guy can represent his team in the Super Bowl. Even though Flacco has a strong career in front of him, the Peyton Manning Show is still the best thing the AFC has to offer. While Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are getting ready for a major slip. Look for the Patriots to struggle for any future playoff appearances. If you are a free agent in the NFL right now, your easiest way to Super Bowl 46 is with the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning, since they have less talent in that football conference. If you must stay in the NFC, then you will want to take the first taxi cab heading toward New Orleans.
