Roadside Flowers

This picture was taken along a stretch of U.S. Highway 421. I was curious when I seen this photo, because in my state of Georgia, they grow these flowers along the Interstate too. I never knew what kind of flowers these were. According to a person that replied to this picture on another website, they said these are poppies. Is this correct? Are the flowers in this picture mainly made up of poppies?

I think these “poppies” or the flowers in the photo would look great around the home. They must be pretty easy to grow, since the road crews just dump out the seeds and these beautiful flowers just start growing up toward the skies. It doesn’t appear no real care or maintenance is needed for these types of flowers. I think homes that have long driveways, could grow these along the sides of their driveways.

All flower gardens don’t have to be put in a box-like shape and weeded every few days. A few rows of these flowers out grow the weeds and probably help to control their growth. The colors are awesome looking in this photo, but to see these flowers growing in person, it’s a much more scenic view than any camera can really show or relay to our eyes. I would like to start a flower garden around my home, but I want the flowers that are easiest to maintain.

A face full of acne can lead to scars down the road if not taken care of properly. Anyone that has acne, should try to find the best acne treatment they possibly can. If you love Eddie Murphy, then you’re most likely familiar with Trading Places. It’s vintage Eddie Murphy, not the garbage he has been involved in recently. He definitely made his best movies in the 80s. Why he changed course, I have no idea. But let’s focus on the positives. Trading Places is one of the funniest movies you will ever see. What’s also neat about it is that there’s also a suspenseful story unfolding, which you don’t get with most comedies.

Eddie Murphy plays a bum on the street. But when Mortimer and his partner in crime decide to make a $1 bet on whether or not they can turn a bum into a millionaire via a Wall Street firm, Murphy becomes rich and legendary. He’s through running away – or wheeling away – from the police, and he expects the highest of standards everywhere he goes. That said, he doesn’t lose his cool. He’s not stuck up, which makes him likeable.

Toward the end of the movie, when he goes to the bathroom, he overhears Mortimer discussing the $1 bet. This is when Murphy first becomes aware that he was used. Instead of saying something right there, he devises a plan. He steals the information on the orange juice report. When Mortimer is looking to corner the market, Murphy flips the switch on him. Mortimer goes broke and Murphy becomes rich for real. It’s a typical karma-based movie that you would find in the 80s, but it’s done very well. And if you have ever seen the movie Coming To America, there is one scene where Mortimer and his partner in crime are wrapped in a blanket on the street. Murphy throws them some cash and they claim they’re back. It’s all pretty funny.

If you want a good laugh and you enjoy Eddie Murphy at his best, Trading Places is highly recommended. I caught it one of the direct tv channels the other night and it was a great time.

It’s time for a new day to dawn in the city of Atlanta for NBA basketball. The Hawks made the right move by removing Mike Woodson from the staff. The Atlanta Hawks need a coach that has a good reputation and experience working with young players. You can’t deny the youth and young talent the Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder currently have on their roster. The Hawks have their own supply of young talent and one coach has worked with 3 of these teams and now it’s time to make it 4.

I am one of the most loyal fans you could find in Georgia or any where else in the world. I have been on the search for a new head coach for a long time now. I was so impressed with the way Maurice Cheeks handled the young 76ers team in Philly a couple of years back. He had this team running up and down the court and it was a fun-style of basketball to watch. I believe Maurice Cheeks would do much better, if he had a collection of players that were further along in their development process. The Atlanta Hawks have never had a coach that saw the potential in a run and gun type team. Cheeks could provide that in Atlanta and he’s already been the head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers. He is currently working as an assistant to the Oklahoma City Thunder. His experience and especially with young players is what makes him a perfect fit for the head coaching duties in Atlanta.

I hope the owners and GM for the Atlanta Hawks recognize what Billy Knight started here in Atlanta. Billy Knight was not premature in wanting to fire Woodson last year as the head coach. He knew then, this team needed a coach that would push the guys and be a motivator to them. Mike Woodson was a coach that gave evil stares and blamed guys for poor performance. He never did try to lift their spirits during hard times and he would quit during games, just like his players did on the floor.

Maurice Cheeks led an NBA team to a Championship in his playing days in Philadelphia. He was the coach on the floor back in those early 1980′s and will bring that NBA Championship experience to the Atlanta Hawks; if given a chance to coach here. I would love to see Maurice Cheeks as my new coach in the ATL and once the fans understand what Cheeks is about, they will want this coach too. Please bring Maurice Cheeks in for an interview and give this man serious consideration for the job. As long as I hear that the Atlanta Hawks invited him in for an interview, I will know they are trying their best to find the best coach for our NBA team here in Atlanta. Let’s go get Cheeks from the Oklahoma City Thunder and our team will move to that next level in the NBA playoffs. Maurice Cheeks is your man for another trip to the post-season!

New Alan Wake Game

The bar has just been raised to a new high in video game technology. This new game that will be available on the Xbox 360, promises to offer graphics we have never seen in a video game before. The skies are all blue and the wind is blowing swiftly in many parts of the country right now. This makes me want to go out and buy a kite to fly. It’s really hard to say where the problem started and at what point it might end, but the recruiting process for Chicago Colleges has been nothing short of a hoops nightmare for the state. Going back to the days of Isiah Thomas who grew up in the Chicago area and would wake up at 5 AM each morning, to take a 90 minute commute to high school. He made this commitment at a very early age, so he could develop his basketball talents further at a good, private school in Chicago. His tremendous dedication led to a nice scholarship at the University of Indiana; which is outside the borders of Chicago, Illinois; where Thomas was born and played basketball. This would only be the start for the recruiting problems that Illinois colleges still face today. Letting a talented point guard like Isiah Thomas, who became an all star in the NBA for many years, get out of your backyard is not something the hoop fans in Chicago want to see very often.

In 1994 a powerful movie called Hoop Dreams came out and showed two basketball prospects over a 5 year period in Chicago, Illinois. This true story documentary on basketball followed the lives of Arthur Agee and William Gates. Both of these guys looked up to Isiah Thomas and he was their basketball idol while growing up in this film. Isiah’s old high school recruited both young men to play, but only one would survive after the first year; while the other one had to return back to his old high school. This movie points out a lot of the real-life struggles that take place on the streets of Chicago and how a college basketball scholarship is one way to leave the Chicago streets.

While Hoop Dreams was being seen for the first time around the country, another very interesting story was coming to light in Illinois basketball. A very tall and talented kid by the name of Kevin Garnett was making headlines and some were suggesting he would not even play college basketball and go straight to the NBA, because he was that good. Garnett was born and grew up in South Carolina, but transferred to a Chicago school called Farragut Career Academy. He played out his senior year there and also played along side high jumper Ronnie Fields. Most basketball fans know who Kevin Garnett is, but very few would know the name Ronnie Fields. It has been reported that Ronnie Fields had a 50 inch vertical leap and to put that in perspective, Michael “Air” Jordan had a 46 inch vertical leap during his highest flying days. Garnett and Fields both committed to play basketball at Depaul; which was a Chicago college. However, Kevin Garnett would skip out on Depaul and go to the NBA; while Ronnie Fields suffered an injury from a car accident and went to the CBA Draft; which was a pro league just under the NBA’s elite league, and got drafted in the 7th round by the LaCrosse Bobcats. It was another hoops nightmare for the recruiters working along side Chicago colleges. Two more talented high school stars that played in Illinois, but would never play for a college in Illinois.

A modern star for the Chicago Bulls is Derrick Rose, who also grew up in the Illinois area and chose to leave the state to play his college basketball down south in Memphis. I’m sure a lot of basketball fans are glad to see Rose back in their state playing basketball for them, even though the Colleges in Chicago must have tried everything in the world to keep this kid in state. It appeared the University of Illinois would change things up; when they almost got Eric Gordon from the state of Indiana. In one of the biggest and most public recruiting battles ever for a high school player, Gordon finally chose to be a Hoosier in his own home state and never did play for a college in Chicago. Gordon only stayed at Indiana for 1 year and now is a key member of the Los Angeles Clippers NBA team.

So the story continues in Chicago and the problems their colleges have with recruiting the basketball stars in their own home state. There is nothing they can do about the past and losing players like Derrick Rose, Isiah Thomas, Kevin Garnett, and others who have left the borders of Illinois to play basketball. They can only control the future and you can bet all the colleges in and around Chicago are now pulling out all the stops, so they can keep these kids in state. You can already see some of the early results with players like Brandon Paul and D.J. Richardson staying home to play at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois.

Chow Chow Dog

Well I went to look for “chow chow” online, so I could show a picture to those that are not familiar with it. As you can see, I found the wrong chow chow in my hunt for the food chow chow. There are some companies or types of chow chow I really don’t like. Some companies may even list their chow chow as a form of relish. It’s a little different from relish and chow chow is its own unique food. Be sure to try a little chow chow the next time you put on a pot of soup beans to cook during the afternoon. Once you try it, you won’t ever eat beans by their self no more. You can eat chow chow with black-eyed peas, great northern beans, pinto beans, or mixed beans that come from the can. The best way is to cook a pot of soup beans and then you really get the best of both worlds!

Coffee drinkers back in the day probably never knew where this addictive drink would lead in 2010. I don’t think anyone sipping on a cup of coffe in 1960 could have ever imagined the way coffee would be made 50 years later. Someone obviously had an idea along the way; for us to see a coffee machine like the Caffe Espresso Makers we see selling online today.

What ever did happen to the regular cups of coffe everyone would drink? I guess the sweet taste of some of the newer coffees have people switching from regular coffee to the espressos and lattes we see folks drinking today. I never developed the taste for the regular cups of coffee, but I sure like walking into the doughnut shops that have the aroma of coffee in the air. Smelling a fresh pot of coffee brewing, makes me want to drink some.

You don’t have to look hard these days to see restaurants selling coffee. I have recently been watching some TV commercials that is advertising a special sale on mocca and latte coffees. These coffees have a little whip cream on the top of them with a few stripes of carmel you can see. It looks like it would be good, but not sure if I would like it or not. It is still coffee and I know for a fact, I don’t like plain coffee. An espresso coffee might be something I would actually like. I would prefer to try it at a coffee house that sold it, before I went to Buy.com to buy an espresso maker.

Hot Coffee Turns to Ice

I’m not sure how long the list is today for all the different types of coffees that are available. I find one of the most interesting choices is the ice coffee. We normally think of coffee as hot and something we have to sip slowly due to the heat. Now in 2010 we have coffe that is probably so cold, you would have to sip it for the coldness it brings. I believe this is another one of those new coffees that I might actually enjoy (if I ever tried it). Have you ever tried the ice coffee? Or better yet, what is your favorite kind of coffee that you enjoy drinking the most? I guess the serious coffee drinkers would have several coffees they could list for their favorite style of coffee. The old timers wouldn’t have any part of the coffee world in 2010. I can just hear them now, “bring it to me black and hot“. They would just want a few coffee grinds in their cup with some hot boiling water poured over it. No cream or sugar for them! I don’t think you would even get an answer; if you asked them if they wanted whip cream or carmel in it.
