G.T. Star Slugger Jen Yee

I never thought I would spend a weekend watching women’s college softball this weekend. The reason I was tuning-in was to watch Jen Yee, the best softball player in the country with all of her impressive stats she put up this year. Leading the nation in homers and batting average was on a couple of her stats she led all other college softball players in this year. It was a magical season for Jen Yee and she didn’t disappoint anyone that watched her play on Saturday or Sunday on ESPN. She lived up to the hype and delivered a lot for the Lady Jackets as they fell short in extra innings to Oregon on Sunday afternoon.

It’s not often on a Sunday afternoon that the Atlanta Braves is not showing on my TV at home. Yesterday I had the remote control in-hand; while flipping back and forth to the Braves and Pirates game to the Lady Yellow Jackets softball game. I found myself more wrapped up in the Lady Jackets than the Braves and that doesn’t happen too often. A big reason why was due to the fact of watching the 5th year senior from Canada Jen Yee do her thing. She was impressive in all aspects of the game and she’s the Alex Rodriguez of college softball. It’s too bad she won’t have a chance to swing the bat again for the Georgia Tech team, because she was worth watching, that’s for sure!

I guess Jacket fans can turn their attention to the Canadian team and watch Jen Yee continue to play softball this summer; as she will be representing her country of Canada. I will be curious to see how Team Canada does in softball and will be rooting for Jen Yee to rope another single up the middle or take one out of the park with her awesome home run swing. She brought that strong bat down from Canada, to the hot sun of Atlanta, Georgia; where she hit an impressive 29 home runs this year. Not to mention the fact she had a batting average of over .500; which means she was getting on base more, than making outs for her Georgia Tech softball team.

Jen Yee steps on the field, you know the girl will be giving 100%. She can’t even keep that energy bottled up for the game to begin as Jen was out there with the GT ground crews and was watering the field down. She started this on Saturday; while she just held the water hose on her shoulders. On Sunday, she did more than just hold the hose, as she was the one who was doing the actual sprinkling of water on the field and all of this right before the Georgia Tech and Oregon softball game. It didn’t slow her down either day, as she hit a home run against the Auburn Tigers softball team on Saturday and then hit a long home run over the right field porch in Atlanta on Sunday afternoon.

What now for the senior softball player from Tech? She has been working on an engineering degree; which she hopes to apply her education to producing a new bat. A bat that is a high tech bat and one that would provide better results than the current-day bats are providing to players. I think opposing pitchers would disagree with Ms. Yee and would probably let her know now, that there is nothing wrong with the bat she used in 2010 for the Lady Jackets softball team.

It was a magical day for the Lady Jackets as they spent most of Sunday trying to come back from the defecits they kept finding their selves in from the women’s team from Oregon. They had their own little slugger doing her thing.

Allie Burger from Oregon

It was a great Sunday afternoon for the lead-off hitter from Corvallis; where the Oregon team is from. Allie Burger is a star in the making and she probably learned a few things from Jen Yee in their two day battle against the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta. Burger almost hit a home run and was just inches away from clearing a long fly ball over the right field fence. This was a big hit in the game and Allie had a hot bat all weekend long in Atlanta. You don’t think her small size would be home run material, but their rivals from the Oregon State Beavers probably thought that too; when she hit her first college career home run off them this year. Oregon would win that game over Oregon State by a 6 to 5 score and Allie Burger hasn’t stopped swinging since. Look for this freshmen to make more noise in the 2010 tournament and for the rest of her college softball career. I won’t be surprised to see Allie Burger leading the nation in hits next year or at some point in her college softball career. She has a nice blend of power and speed that make her perfect for women’s softball. Her bat is a big reason why the Ducks didn’t need to play a 2nd game on Sunday against the Jackets softball team.

Did you spend the weekend watching these talented girls like Jen Yee from Georgia Tech and Allie Burger from the Ducks of Oregon? Don’t laugh or think this would have been a waste of time. If you like sports and watching two evenly matched teams go at it on the diamond in softball or baseball, you would have loved watching the softball in Atlanta his weekend. These girls are amazing and I wonder where they go after college? I guess the WNBA isn’t the only pro league women need to become professionals in sports. I think a women’s softball league on the professional level is needed, if there isn’t one now. I know there would be at least a dozen cities that would have an interest in this and folks in Georgia would have more than the Atlanta Dream from the WNBA to watch in women’s sports. I’m not that big of a fan of women athletes or the sports they play. When you see talent like Yee and Burger display at the plate, it makes you want to watch them play more.

The softball in Georgia Tech is in good shape. They have a lot of talented freshmen like Oregon’s Allie Burger that will be representing them on the field in 2011. I’m sure a few high school girls watched the action on Sunday and now want to be a part of the great softball program in Atlanta. A few more good recruits for next year and the women from Tech will be right back up there next year, defending their title as ACC Champions in women’s softball.

If Allie Burger or Jen Yee is reading my blog now, I do have a question for each of you. Please leave me a reply, if you’re currently online reading about your self and found my blog post through the search engines.

First question for Jen Yee: If you do come up with a better bat, will you make an effort to give the Lady Jackets softball team the first swings with it? Or will you be leaning more toward your teammates in Canada and providing the Canadian National Team with the first high-tech bats from Jen Yee?

Second question for Allie Burger: Did the games in Atlanta over the weekend have a more special place in your heart; than the diving catch you made in high school during the State Championship Game?

Allie played at Shadle Park High School and during her sophomore year, she made a diving catch to help her team win 2-0 in the State Championship game. I’m sure this catch will always be a lasting memory for Allie, but how does the college action and playing against the country’s best softball player in Jen Yee and beating her team; compare to the diving catch as a 10th grader at Shadle Park HS?

Great job Jackets! Hope to see you guys back in 2011! Also, I would like to wish the ladies from Oregon good luck as they continue their tournament play in 2010 and beating the odds in front of the hostile fans in Atlanta; that was primarily rooting for the Lady Jackets to win on Sunday afternoon. Congratulations to both teams!

Every business owner that has a shop on Main Street in your neck of the woods, should be advertising to the local consumers in their area. It works out great for them, as they should see a spike in business and it makes things easier for us, when we do search for their services or products online.

They have combined all the local resources in and around your area, so you can easily find all the local companies that produce or provide what it is you’re looking for online. The Net is full of good websites for local areas like CitySearch.com, Superages.com, Yellowpages.com, and Yelp.com. All of these sites provide information to one greater website called Local.com. It’s almost like a series of streams and rivers that flow into one big lake of local information and that lake is Local.com.

Try using Local.com the next time you want to search for something in your local area. I use these local searches a lot for phone numbers to my favorite restaurants; when I want to call-in an order-to-go over the phone. You can find the phone numbers, addresses, driving directions, and other detailed information about the local restaurants in your hometown; if you use Local.com to search for these food places. The World Wide Web is now open for business in your local hometowns. Once you see how easy it is to use, you will never want to pick up the phone book again!

I sat out two tarby worm trees behind my house about 15 years ago. Each year they get a little bigger and that means a few more tarby worms on them. Today is the first day I have seen the white blooms on them flower out. A tarby worm tree isn’t that big and mine are probably about 18 feet tall. It’s a pretty sight to see the white blooms with a touch of brown color inside each bloom. It’s these flowers on the trees that will attract the moths to them. When the moths come in to eat the nectar from these white blooms (like the bees do), they will lay eggs on the leaves and branches of the tarby worm tree. Its these eggs that will hatch in a couple of weeks and become small worms. We call these worms “tarby worms” and they will spend their whole life eating off all of these leaves on the tarby worm trees.

These tarby worms make a great fish bait. They may not work as well as the white eagle does in catching its fish to eat each day, but I have had a lot of luck with catching fish from tarby worms. A tarby worm is a lot like a caterpillar, but without all of the prickly hairs like most caterpillars have. A tarby worm is smooth and they are black on their back side with little white dots. Their underside or the belly of the tarby worm is a bright lime green color. I believe this bright color sticks out well under water and fish can find them real easy in the lakes and rivers where you like to go fishing at. You can catch pretty much anything, if you use tarby worms as the bait. I mainly have caught bass, but bream, catfish, carp, and other fishes will go after the tarby worm. The white eagle is a beautiful bird that catches its fish with a lot of grace and ease. Or at least it appears that way to see them grab a fish from the waters like they do. I don’t think the tarby worm fishermen will make anyone’s fishing technique graceful-looking, but you should have a little luck catching fish, if you use tarby worms as the bait. The best part of all is the price for the tarby worms their self. Since they’re free, it makes owning a couple of tarby worm trees well-worth the price.

I should be having my first batch of tarby worms around the 4th of July. The worms are only around for about 1 week to 10 days. So you have to plan your fishing trips around Mother Nature, if you plan to use tarby worms in your bait tackle boxes. After the tarby worms have ate all the leaves from the trees, they disappear from sight. The trees then begin growing new leaves and will be full of leaves in no time at all. Once all the new leaves get fully grown, the tarby worms will hatch for a 2nd time and make one more seasonal appearance. This is your 2nd opportunity to get a few tarby worms to take fishing with you. I love to fish with them and I can’t wait until early July to go fishing with the tarby worms that will soon be appearing in my backyard. We have those certain times of the year we can count on certain things. Around the Thanksgiving holidays, we can always count on shoppers to pack the malls the Friday after Thanksgiving Day or Black Friday. Then after the weekend; we get to see the most online shoppers on Cyber Monday. Now for this time of year; we get to see our highways and Interstates get swarmed by cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, and the family RV. The weather warms up and everyone wants to go on vacation to some far away place, they must drive hundreds of miles to get to. You know these people like you know the shoppers at Thanksgiving looking for Christmas gifts. The holiday travelers need food and gas. This is a good time for those in the food and gas business and have a business close to a major highway. Predicting when these travelers will show up and what they will buy, is easy to do for the experienced owners in the gas and food industries.

A service station that didn’t buy extra toilet paper or have it in stock in the bathroom, may run out real fast, if they don’t prepare for the travelers that need to take restroom stops. A convenience store that didn’t order enough soft drinks, may lose out on some money, if they can’t provide a cold soft drink to their customers. It makes good business sense for these companies to prepare for all the travelers that will hit the highway from now until late August. It works the same way right after Thanksgiving; when the malls offer big sales on Black Friday and give out the best online deals the Monday after the Thanksgiving Day weekend.

If you don’t know what I could possibly be talking about with corn and worms; then you probably never been fishing before. I like to do all sorts of fishing and I will do whatever it takes to catch a fish. One of the best ways to teach children to fish and get them into the sport of fishing, is to take them bream fishing. This is perfect for the impatient fishermen who must have a bite every minute or they don’t think the fish are biting.

Bream are a small fish and they are easy to find. Just about any lake or river, you can find schools of small bream hugging the shorelines. You don’t have to cast out to catch them. Just release about a fishing rod’s length of line out and bait your small hook with corn or worms and you can catch bream all day long. Just toss the line out by hand, keep your hands on the pole, because it won’t take these little fish long to bite. In fact, if you haven’t gotten a bite in less than 1 minute, you may want to check your hook to see if any bait is still left on it. If this isn’t the problem, then go find a new place to bream fish.

I always like to go bream fishing one time a year. The first fishing trip of the year is perfect for bream fishing. It gives fishermen a chance to develop their fish-catching skills for the upcoming fishing season. You get a chance to anticipate the bite and get to jerk your rod, while you try to hook these fish with very small mouths. A small hook is a must for bream fishing. They will have a hard time getting their lips around the larger hooks and you will just be feeding them. You can catch a lot more bream, by using the smallest hooks you have in your tackle box. Be sure to carry plenty of bait, if you plan to fish for any length of time. You can go through a whole tub of worms or can of corn in 1 hour or less; when you go bream fishing. I have been digging up worms around the house now and putting them in a 5 gallon bucket. So when I get ready to go bream fishing, I will have my worms ready to go.

Most bream are too small to keep. If you can find some that are bigger enough to string, you will want to take them home and clean them. Bream is one of the best tasting fish our fresh waters in North America offer. I love to eat bream and they are even more fun to catch. If you have a small child you would like to take fishing this year, get them set up with a bream gear (corn and earthworms). Buying the worms in the store is pretty expensive, considering how fast the bream will eat your store-bought worms. You can do yourself a favor, if you will start digging your worms now and giving them a chance to multiply, before you go fishing again. Creating a worm bed is pretty simple. I just use a 5 gallon bucket and feed them the table scraps. You can put just about anything in your worm bucket or worm bed; when it comes to food. Avoid the meats and cheeses and your worms will grow really fast and multiply faster than rabbits. A little cornmeal in the bucket every now and then is a great food source for your worms. Don’t forget to add a little water (don’t drown them), so your soil stays good and moist for the worms to thrive in.

Some women will never have to worry about what they eat or ever concern their self with that ugly “D” word. Yes, the dreaded diet! While only a small percentage of women in the world has this luxury; the rest have to find ways to make it work the best way they know how to. Some women that have that slight bulge in the middle can tuck it in real easy and without anyone ever knowing. A simple kymaro body shaper can curve your body into a shape you feel more comfortable with in public. Slipping one of these on is the fastest way to a trim waist-line and you don’t have to spend weeks or months dieting to get this look. So it is possible to be a slim woman and never have to diet, to get there.

Yes, this is your special day and a time for you to plan everything for yourself. You can earn some brownie points with the groom or bride’s family, if you show a little attention and care for your wedding guests and the people who play parts in the actual wedding ceremony. I think you can achieve this by choosing the best wedding favors a person has ever seen at a wedding before.

You remember when Oprah Winfrey gave out a brand new car for each of her guests one day? Well that might be a little out of your price range, but you get my drift on where I’m going with this. You can make a lot more people happy, by providing them with something special to take away from your wedding; than staying that extra night at Niagara Falls or the place you choose for your honeymoon. Keep this in mind when you and your better half begin the wedding plans. You wanted a unique twist in your wedding, so it wasn’t just another traditional wedding we have seen before. You can change this really easy, by choosing the best wedding favors ever!

Roadside Flowers

This picture was taken along a stretch of U.S. Highway 421. I was curious when I seen this photo, because in my state of Georgia, they grow these flowers along the Interstate too. I never knew what kind of flowers these were. According to a person that replied to this picture on another website, they said these are poppies. Is this correct? Are the flowers in this picture mainly made up of poppies?

I think these “poppies” or the flowers in the photo would look great around the home. They must be pretty easy to grow, since the road crews just dump out the seeds and these beautiful flowers just start growing up toward the skies. It doesn’t appear no real care or maintenance is needed for these types of flowers. I think homes that have long driveways, could grow these along the sides of their driveways.

All flower gardens don’t have to be put in a box-like shape and weeded every few days. A few rows of these flowers out grow the weeds and probably help to control their growth. The colors are awesome looking in this photo, but to see these flowers growing in person, it’s a much more scenic view than any camera can really show or relay to our eyes. I would like to start a flower garden around my home, but I want the flowers that are easiest to maintain.

A face full of acne can lead to scars down the road if not taken care of properly. Anyone that has acne, should try to find the best acne treatment they possibly can. Teens should really try to provide protection for their face, so they don’t have scars as an adult. If you love Eddie Murphy, then you’re most likely familiar with Trading Places. It’s vintage Eddie Murphy, not the garbage he has been involved in recently. He definitely made his best movies in the 80s. Why he changed course, I have no idea. But let’s focus on the positives. Trading Places is one of the funniest movies you will ever see. What’s also neat about it is that there’s also a suspenseful story unfolding, which you don’t get with most comedies.

Eddie Murphy plays a bum on the street. But when Mortimer and his partner in crime decide to make a $1 bet on whether or not they can turn a bum into a millionaire via a Wall Street firm, Murphy becomes rich and legendary. He’s through running away – or wheeling away – from the police, and he expects the highest of standards everywhere he goes. That said, he doesn’t lose his cool. He’s not stuck up, which makes him likeable.

Toward the end of the movie, when he goes to the bathroom, he overhears Mortimer discussing the $1 bet. This is when Murphy first becomes aware that he was used. Instead of saying something right there, he devises a plan. He steals the information on the orange juice report. When Mortimer is looking to corner the market, Murphy flips the switch on him. Mortimer goes broke and Murphy becomes rich for real. It’s a typical karma-based movie that you would find in the 80s, but it’s done very well. And if you have ever seen the movie Coming To America, there is one scene where Mortimer and his partner in crime are wrapped in a blanket on the street. Murphy throws them some cash and they claim they’re back. It’s all pretty funny.

If you want a good laugh and you enjoy Eddie Murphy at his best, Trading Places is highly recommended. I caught it one of the direct tv channels the other night and it was a great time.

It’s time for a new day to dawn in the city of Atlanta for NBA basketball. The Hawks made the right move by removing Mike Woodson from the staff. The Atlanta Hawks need a coach that has a good reputation and experience working with young players. You can’t deny the youth and young talent the Portland Trail Blazers, Philadelphia 76ers, and Oklahoma City Thunder currently have on their roster. The Hawks have their own supply of young talent and one coach has worked with 3 of these teams and now it’s time to make it 4.

I am one of the most loyal fans you could find in Georgia or any where else in the world. I have been on the search for a new head coach for a long time now. I was so impressed with the way Maurice Cheeks handled the young 76ers team in Philly a couple of years back. He had this team running up and down the court and it was a fun-style of basketball to watch. I believe Maurice Cheeks would do much better, if he had a collection of players that were further along in their development process. The Atlanta Hawks have never had a coach that saw the potential in a run and gun type team. Cheeks could provide that in Atlanta and he’s already been the head coach for the Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers. He is currently working as an assistant to the Oklahoma City Thunder. His experience and especially with young players is what makes him a perfect fit for the head coaching duties in Atlanta.

I hope the owners and GM for the Atlanta Hawks recognize what Billy Knight started here in Atlanta. Billy Knight was not premature in wanting to fire Woodson last year as the head coach. He knew then, this team needed a coach that would push the guys and be a motivator to them. Mike Woodson was a coach that gave evil stares and blamed guys for poor performance. He never did try to lift their spirits during hard times and he would quit during games, just like his players did on the floor.

Maurice Cheeks led an NBA team to a Championship in his playing days in Philadelphia. He was the coach on the floor back in those early 1980′s and will bring that NBA Championship experience to the Atlanta Hawks; if given a chance to coach here. I would love to see Maurice Cheeks as my new coach in the ATL and once the fans understand what Cheeks is about, they will want this coach too. Please bring Maurice Cheeks in for an interview and give this man serious consideration for the job. As long as I hear that the Atlanta Hawks invited him in for an interview, I will know they are trying their best to find the best coach for our NBA team here in Atlanta. Let’s go get Cheeks from the Oklahoma City Thunder and our team will move to that next level in the NBA playoffs. Maurice Cheeks is your man for another trip to the post-season!

All you need to do now is pre-order the game online or wait for it to appear in stores this summer. There is already a tremendous buzz around this new video game and I expect it to be a hot seller in 2010. A whole new world of video games are about to be unleashed on us. Alan Wake is only the beginning to the new and exciting video games we can expect to start seeing in the video game world.

The skies are all blue and the wind is blowing swiftly in many parts of the country right now. This makes me want to go out and buy a kite to fly. I’m not sure which stores offer the best deals on kites or would have a good selection to choose from. I just know these windy days make it perfect for flying a big, colorful kite in the sky.

The weather is changing and as we get rid of Old Man Winter and bring in the warm sunshine from spring, this causes a lot of wind to stir up. We often see the stronger winds in the fall time; when our weather goes from hot to cold. We don’t often think about flying kites in the spring time, but it’s really a good time right now.

Many people will refer to this time of the year as Blackberry Winter. Just when we thought summer was ready to begin; that last cold front moves through our area and sends a cold chill running through our bones. We have to turn the heat back up and add an extra blanket on the bed at night. This Blackberry Winter period is the time you will see the little white flowers start to bloom on the blackberry vines. The bees love these flowers and it’s an early food source for them in the spring. This cool air disturbs the air above and creates a lot of strong winds in most states. I can look out the window right now and see this would be a perfect day to fly a kite.
