My Favorite Police Song
The Police are going back on tour and releasing a great new police cd, that is two discs of the greatest Police songs of all time. You can even win a trip to see them, when they make their stop in New York! If you don’t win the grand prize, you could still receive one of the 10 cds available that will be autographed! Also, 100 dvd documentaries will be given away, that has the drummer Stewart Copeland on it! It will be his own personal take on being one of the biggest rock bands ever. The documentary is called Everyone Stares, and would be a great inside look on the Police.
Now so many great songs are on this new double cd set that is coming out. Every Breath You Take is probably my all time favorite song by them. It’s probably their most popular one, and all these years later, it is still well-played on all the radio stations. This song has been on big Hollywood movies, sitcoms, cartoons, used in sports arenas, and just a song that everybody knows.
It’s not only been on tv that people will talk about this song in passing. It happens in real life too. There will be somebody eyeing food at the table, and will make a reference to this Police song. They will say something along the lines of “every move you make I’ll be watching you”, to let the person know they see the food they are eating, or they might just be protecting their food and say that. It’s a term that gets passed along a lot in everyday life. So the Police probably had no idea, when they made this song so long ago, that millions would be saying some form of that song. This song is on the new police cd.
Every Breath You Take has words that sound like somebody is stalking the other person. As if it is threatening, and they are indeed stalking them, right? Or is it more of a love song, and the person is actually just so in love with the other person, that they want to watch every move they make? People have interpreted this song into different ways since 1983, when Sting had written the song. According to Sting, here is the truth behind the lyrics “I woke up in the middle of the night with that line in my head, sat down at the piano and had written it in half an hour. The tune itself is generic, an aggregate of hundreds of others, but the words are interesting. It sounds like a comforting love song. I didn’t realize at the time how sinister it is. I think I was thinking of Big Brother, surveillance and control.”
No matter what interpretations has been made of the song, I think we have found our own meanings behind the lyrics. That’s the way some of the biggest songs ever has worked out sometimes. Everybody has their own unique view of a certain song, and they think they know what the singer is talking about. There’s no doubts that Every Breath You Take does just that, and it’s one of the things that has made the song so huge.
I think the Police have influenced so many others with their music. I know of many drummers that think Stewart Copeland is the best ever. I’m sure other bands have copied certain styles of the Police, but there’s probably not a bigger influence from the Police, than from their drummer. I’m sure there would be many bands lining up to go on this latest tour that the Police are doing. It would be great to have a chance to see them live and in person, but I might just have to settle for the new police cd.
