Earnhardt Jr. Makes Poor Decision
The most popular race car driver in Nascar announced that he would be driving for Hendrick Motorsports in next year in 2008. He’s joining the most powerful team in Nascar, that has dominated the circuit over the last few years led by Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson. Accorinding to Junior his father would have approved and have his blessings for this move. I’m not quite so sure that is true.
Junior’s dad the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. did a lot for the sport of Nascar driving. He is a big reason while the sport is so popular today, and the fans try to hold on to that legacy through the son of Dale Earnhardt. Now the driver that the fans like most is joining the strongest team in Nascar, makes too big of a weight shift in Nascar. It’s going to be hard for any team to compete with Hendrick Motorsports on Sundays beginning in 2008.
I personally like Jeff Gordon the best and wish all of his team the most in success. This move does strengthen their team adding the popularity that the team has lacked. It’s not uncommon to see Jeff Gordon get boo’s at a lot of cities that Nascar goes to each year. It’s mainly because he is good and the fans are booing his success and the lack of Junior’s to this point.
Dale Junior is really not anything great when it comes to the true drivers of Nascar. He is often caught up in crashes or mishandles his car due to over aggressiveness or just a lack of professional driving skills. Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart are two top superstars of Nascar when you just look at their pure driving skills. A driver like Jimmie Johnson has got a lot of recognition due to his strong racing team. This move will help the little Earnhardt to be more competitive and win a few more races. It’s just not a good move to shift the weight of his popularity to the best team that Nascar has to offer. Dale’s decision to drive for Hendrick Motorsports in 2008 is a selfish one, and shows that he doesn’t have any cares or respect to just what his father has built into the sport of Nascar Racing. Those might sound like harsh words, but it’s the truth. I think daddy Earnhardt would not approve of this move, and would realize the sport is bigger than just any individual driver. I’m sure Earnhardt fans are not thrilled about teaming up with Jeff Gordon, and I wonder how many fans will be able to speak up on this latest move. Earnhardt fans are so blinded sometimes, they have probably had enough time to digest this, and put their own spin to where it will make the most sense for them. Junior will still have to deal with his lack of professional driving skills no matter what team he chooses in racing.Click here for reuse options!
