Georgia Mans Die from Snake Bite

Timber Rattler

A sad story coming out of the state of Georgia where a man lost his life while hunting in the woods. Apparently a 68 year old man was in a tree stand and on his attempt to come down from the stand, he was bitten by a snake. The snake bite proved to be fatal as the man’s grandson tried to get him to safety by the use of an ATV or 4 wheeler. The 68 year old man continued to pass out on his journey out of the woods and would fall off the 4 wheeler. By the time emergency personnel had reach the man, he was unresponsive to their treatments and passed away.

The man’s name was Dick Rupert and he is from Winder, Georgia. I’m sure it’s been a rough weekend for his family, from this horrible hunting accident that occurred on Saturday morning in Oglethorpe County located in Georgia. Normally we think of a gun shot wound as a hunting accident, but there is many forms of hunting accidents that take place each year in Georgia and the rest of the country too. The hunting accident that ended Mr. Rupert’s life on Saturday was apparently caused from the venom of a snake; when it bit Dick Rupert on the calf. While most of us know that some snakes are poisonous, it is rare for them to actually kill people. Especially when someone goes for immediate medical treatment like in this case with Rupert’s hunting accident.

The people that are associated with this hunting accident are thinking the snake was a timber rattler (a type of rattlesnake); which are found commonly in Georgia. The picture above is one of a timber rattler and perhaps was a snake of this size that bit Mr. Rupert on the calf. If you look closely at the tail on the left side of the picture above, you can see how blunt the tail comes to an end. A rule of thumb with poisonous snakes, is that their tails will be very blunt at the end. This means that instead of the tail gradually decreasing in size near the tail, it comes to a drastic decrease at the end. A snake that isn’t poisonous would gradually decrease in size near the tail and would have a more symmetric looking body shape. This is only a rule of thumb and this isn’t 100% accurate all of the time. It is wise to just avoid all snakes, but especially the ones you find that have this quick and blunt tail look to them, like the timber rattler has in the picture above.

Rattle snakes are poisonous snakes and their venom can kill people. Most people know these snakes due to the rattler that is at the end of their tails and they will shake their tails causing a “rattle noise” that warns people and other animals that they are in the area. I’m not sure if the rattler was being heard Saturday morning when Dick Rupert was hunting in the woods of Georgia, but it is a sound you can hear very well. I would imagine the snake was just at the bottom of the tree stand and Mr. Rupert surprised the snake when he was climbing down and the snake felt threatened or got stepped on. This rattle snake probably didn’t have time to use their rattler, that would have surely warned Rupert to stay away and could have avoided this tragic story.

Let’s just hope Dick Rupert didn’t die in vain on Saturday and someone out there will learn from this accident. If we can use his story to warn other hunters the dangers that are out there and especially the dangers with snakes; then we can make the best out of a bad situation. The tree stands are great in the woods and give us the surprise factor over deer, but we do surprise the other animals in the woods too; when we use these tree stands. It sounds like this rattle snake made it’s way to the base of this tree stand and wasn’t expecting anything coming down from the tree. A snake senses are great about picking up vibrations from the ground; when a person or other animal is on the ground walking toward them. The snake in this story didn’t have a chance to really use it’s natural senses, since a hunter was coming down from a tree stand. If the timber rattler would have seen the hunter climbing down; then chances are the snake would have crawled away or used it’s rattler to warn the hunter of it’s presence.

  • The topic mainly seems to be on health care these days and not sure what is being done to our housing and real estate problems. This was the big story a few months ago and the housing industry was getting hit hard. Is real estate ready for a come back in 2010? Or perhaps later on this year?

I think we forgot about land and what a great investment it is these days. A person that can afford a nice piece of property right now; should really take a chance on it. Very good prices are in the marketplace on land for sale and I think now is a good time to buy. After the health care issues get worked out in Washington, we may see the focus go back to the banks, lending institutions, and real estate properties. I think before that happens is when investors could make the most profits in the real estate market. Just don’t forget about land and I think if you have the opportunity to buy some at a cheap price, I would take full advantage of it. Investors that get in on the action now will have the chance to make a really nice profit in about 2 to 3 years from now. Land should be on it’s way back up real soon and those getting in now will enjoy the ride they are about to see in the real estate market.

  • The old Soviet Union must have got their feelings hurt due to all the attention that has been focused on Iran and North Korea lately. They also want the world to look at them as a hostile nation too. The Russians now have two nuclear submarines that are patrolling the waters off the east coast of the United States. A Russian General has confirmed this and wanted to make sure that this news made it into the media stream of the U.S..

It’s no big secret what certain countries are trying to do behind close doors. Russia is out of the loop and isn’t aware of our knowledge we have on them. Hurricane Katrina was caused by a direct Russian attack. The use of weather in war is a new toy for the Russian nation and they are the ones that caused Hurricane Katrina. They are sending low-frequency waves into the atmosphere which cause one layer in the atmosphere to expand and change jet stream patterns. Changing these high velocity winds known as the jet stream can bring on drought or severe weather to certain parts of the world. The Russians caused a terrible drought to occur in California many years ago with this tactic of using weather as a weapon of war. We got to see their ruthless tactics again when Hurricane Katrina was directed to our shores from Russian interference.

The U.S. launched it’s own weather-changing patterns right after Katrina and set up a high-pressure area off the coast of Florida. This directed all hurricanes away from the U.S. coastlines the following year after Hurricane Katrina. The U.S. continues to have to deal with Russia’s tactics on trying to cause problems in the 21st century. The invasion of Georgia was unacceptable actions by the nation that use to rule over Georgia and we haven’t forgot about this latest deed either.

The flight patterns of Russian bombers and the presence of Russian submarines off the coast of the United States is not actions of a friendly nation and not a country you want to eagerly help. No military action will be taken right now as long as the Russian nation continues to actively talk with other countries about trying to harm the United States of America. Lots of good intel is being gathered right now and the U.S. won’t lose this connection; while Russia continues these cold war tactics. A harsh future does await the officials of Russia; when all of the evidence gets brought before a table of world leaders to condem the Russian nation and other nations that are actively partcipating in talks with the former Soviet Union.

  • You just got done with your last day of work for life and now you’re ready to retire. Are you heading to the Sunshine State in Florida like most retirees do? Or do you have other plans for a place you will spend your final days? I think these types of questions can be important for someone that has recently retired from work or plan to retire in a few short years. If the money you get each month after retirement is not a lot; then you will want to find cheap cities to live in. This means finding areas in the United States that are relatively cheap on taxes and makes it affordable to the older generation. The place you choose to set up camp after retirement can determine if you will be a wealthy person living on your pension or someone that is just barely making ends meet each month.

Where are the top 10 cities in America that a person could go to live after retirement? I’m not sure what the 10 very best places would be, but I do have 10 solid choices that would make life a whole lot cheaper after your working days are over. There is even 1 place located in Florida for those that want the warm weather and could meet others that have retired from their jobs too.

10 Cheap Cities for the Retired Living in America

    1. Billings, Montana

    2. Cheyenne, Wyoming

    3. Doral, Florida

    4. Henderson, Nevada

    5. Juneau, Alaska

    6. Manchester, New Hampshire

    7. Nashville, Tennessee

    8. Sioux Falls, South Dakota

    9. Spokane, Washington

    10. Stafford, Texas

These are the places that would treat you the best on taxes. Paying taxes as a retiree can eat away a big portion of your monthly checks. These cities in America are the ones that would take the least cut and let the retired folks enjoy more of their money to spend on other things. Choosing where to live after retirement can be a big difference on the type of lifestyle you can live each day. I believe as retirement gets closer for most working people right now; they will take more considerations on where they live, so they can have a little more money in their golden years. America does have cheap USA cities and low tax cities for people that want to live comfortably after their working days are over.

  • It may not always be clear to some home owners where their property line ends and the neighbor’s begins. People all throughout time have got into disputes over land lines. Land is a good investment and it takes a little money to buy it too. I can see how problems could get started with property prices so expensive these days. You certainly don’t want your neighbor taking away any of that valuable property that is legally yours. I’m sure your neighbor feels the same way and they don’t want to give up any land either. The best way to solve the problem is get a surveyor to come out and draw the line between the two property owners claiming the same land. Once the line is in place, you want to keep it marked with a fence or some boundary that isn’t easily removed. Something as simple as a PVC fence could be installed on the property line to establish an official boundary between two neighbors feuding. If you think you have a piece a property that a neighbor is using, you need to take it up with them immediately. The longer they go on using your property is the longer it generally takes to solve the problem.

  • Mountain Folks Speak

It must be tough for a family to move from a place they have lived their whole lives at. I know mountain folks and people living in the country that have owned their land for several generations and then someone decides to develop the property or build a road through it. It can be tough on those families that are forced to move and especially if that is the only home they have ever known. I have lived in my house for over 30 years and I have gotten use to it now. I’m not sure I would want to move, even if I won the lottery.

The people that have the roughest jobs are the ones that have to make these poor mountain folks leave. They are often confronted with violence or shotguns and this is usually how mountain folks speak. They are a tough bunch and they learn to stick up for their neighbors. They probably could use some more manners from a mountain forum or something like that, but these people tend to survive much better than city folks do when confronted with bad news. You may think of the people living up in the mountains as calm and laid back folks, but when you get them upset, you will hear them speak, that’s for sure!
