This Saturday was incredibly busy for our Lindsey and I and, as always, most of it centered on tennis.

Of course I had my regular tennis lesson at the Denver Athletic Club with Bill. It always takes about 15 to 20 minutes to warm up and overcome the basic soreness that comes with old age. But once I got going it felt great.

I’m glad I got the earliest lesson on Saturday because Lindsey’s club team always has a match on Saturday afternoons. That gives me time to run home and fix a nice lunch for Lindsey before we head off. It gets pretty hectic, but seeing Lindsey play makes it all worth while.

I’ve been so busy and forgetful lately that I broke down and made a pre-tennis checklist and chant it like a mantra so I don’t have to turn the car around two blocks from home. For the most part I remember everything. I always worry that I’ll forget to set the home security alarm (VA alarm systems packages) so I wind up setting it (and re-setting it) a couple time before we leave.

Her match went really well and she won the #1 Singles 6-4, 6-2. I’m so happy she’s on this team now with her friends.

Our Tennis Saturdays are so busy, but it’s worth it to see Lindsey getting so good at the game I love.

Have you heard this new country song by Lady Antebellum called Need You Now? The chorus starts with the lyrics “its a quarter after one and I’m all alone” and another verse of the chorus goes “it’s a quarter after one, I’m a little drunk“. I know a lot of people like this group Lady Antebellum and will be looking online to order it’s a quarter after 1 song. Many fans will remember Miranda Lambert singing the song The House That Built Me on the Country Music Awards television show. She will be singing with Sheryl Crow and they will be doing the legendary song Coal Miner’s Daughter. I have long adored anime in general. Among my favorites in this sub-culture is the story of Princess Mononoke. It is based on ancient folktales from the early days of Japan. The animation style is excellent and really captures the imagination. The storyline itself keeps people involved in the plot from beginning to end. I had seen it many times before, but when I saw it getting ready to play as I flipped through my TV channels that I get because of Cannon Satellite online deals I had to stop and watch again. It was better than ever considering I had only seen it on old VHS, whereas this was in digital quality satellite television.

I relieved every moment of the story from the prince being cast out of his village due to being tainted by the enraged demon bore to the inevitable end. I always enjoyed the fact that it ends on a reasonable high note despite all of the aggression from many sides during the story.

This story is at heart a diatribe against greed and violence. It speaks of what happens when people move away from nature and become selfish or greedy. It also shows nature as being violently aggressive but with a purpose. Animals attack humans, humans attack animals. Everything in this story can speak.

Ultimately the story of the former prince and the wolf girl is one of love and trust, even though they will live in two different worlds. A must see for anyone who adores quality animation.

I love watching the true story pictures that come on television. The crime shows that have a murder or kidnapping case that is unsolved are my favorites. I like to piece the clues together myself and come up with a theory to the case. In many instances, I believe I have solved a few of these cold cases at home. I don’t know who to call or why the authorities haven’t solved some of these crimes, from the clues I was presented with. In most cases, the obvious culprit in a crime, is the one who is the most likely target. Some crime scene investigators seem to over look the big elephant that is in the middle of the room. I wish they would take a closer look at their notes for various crimes I see on the TV set. I know I have to be right on 5 or 6 of the cases I have seen in the last few months on television. I just look for the main targets in a investigation and more times than not, this seems to be the guilty party. Do you like to play investigator at home too? Tell me a brief description of the crime, some of the names it involves and I will see if I can help you solve the crime too. Let’s start putting some of these famous criminals behind bars. The crime fighting sleuths at home can solve crimes too and the police should start looking to more crime fighters at home for help.

I am a little out of the gaming loop. I am not sure what the most popular games are currently on the market. I am thinking about getting a new playstation 3 and playing some of these newer games. I did buy a Playstation gaming system when they first came out, but never did get their 2nd PS2 version. I imagine the PS3 is a lot better than both of the previous two gaming consoles.

Do you own a Playstation 3 now? If so, what is some of your favorite games? Is there any new games that are about to come out for the PS 3 system? I would like to know some of these answers, before I buy a new one. I want to make sure I am getting the best system possible, to play some of these new video games. Even though I haven’t really played any video games lately, I have always enjoyed them. I think if a person plays video games in moderation, it is a good exercise for the brain. Especially for our kids, who are still developing their brains. These modern video games help to develop our young minds and I believe the Playstation 3 generation of teens, who like to play video games for 2 hours a day, will be some of our brightest folks, when they become adults. As reported on the Doctors TV Show, it is not healthy to play more than 2 hours a day, so in moderation, these games can be good for our kids. It also helps to keep them at home and parents really have to like this about the video games of today.

I get tired of a lot of the copycat film makers out in Hollywood. It seems there isn’t enough originality in most of the movies they’re creating these days. I like to see a movie where I don’t know what is going to happen, has a couple of twists, and is a movie like no other. Now with that said, the guys in Hollywood just keep retelling the same stories and only changing the actors and actresses in these stories. I think they must have heard that line “if its not broke, don’t fix it“, because they sure aren’t trying to fix anything out there in movie land. That is, until I saw the 2005 movie Darkroom. While this movie isn’t totally original and there are a few movies that share the same twists as this one, the director, producer, and movie writers really hit a home run on how this one turned out.

I really can’t say what other movies is like Darkroom or this would give away the movie’s biggest secret. I can walk you through my thought process as I was watching this movie just recently. I know I am a bit behind on my movie watching, since this is a 2005 movie and I am seeing it for the first time in 2010. This is because of all of the other poor Hollywood movies that just keep getting remade each year.

When this movie started out, I was really liking the storyline that was being set up. A man in a mental hospital for 15 years and can’t remember anything that happened to him before he was put in this mental hospital. The people running the mental hospital gave consent that a woman could give this man a new experimental drug, so it might could help him to remember who he was. At this point of the movie, I was getting happy. Then the movie gets a little weird and I was beginning to lose interest. There was enough there to keep me watching this movie Darkroom, so I kept watching. Then with about 20 minutes left in the movie, I was about to turn it off and find something else to watch. The reason being, because I thought I knew how it was going to end. However, good thing I watched the last 20 minutes, because the best parts of the movie come in at the end. It has a very surprise ending and one that you will never guess. Even with me giving you the hint it will have a surprise ending, you still will not guess it. I had factored in a surprise ending, but the directors of this movie go into a surprise ending you will never guess.

This is a must-watch movie for anyone who is getting tired of the same old crappy movies from Hollywood. There are a few other movies that is similar to Darkroom, but you won’t know it is like other movies, until you watch how this one ends. Save your money and don’t go to the theaters this weekend to watch a brand new Hollywood movie. You can spend that same 7 or 8 bucks on this five-year-old movie, if you buy it on sale at Buy.com online. Plus you will be able to watch this movie over and over and can show it to your family and friends. You wouldn’t be able to do that, if you go to the theaters to watch a new Hollywood release. I would give the start of this movie a 8, from a 1 – 10 scale and 10 being the best possible movie ever. The middle of this movie deserves a 4, but probably is needed to set up the climatic ending. The ending gets a 9 for all around movies and a 10 for being different and original. Overall this movie is probably an 8.5 on my movie scale.

One of the greatest southern rock bands of all time is Lynyrd Skynyrd. Now with such an unusual name, did you ever wonder how this famous band got their name? Well a few decades back, a plane crash that would take away some of the heart and soul of this southern rock band from Florida, was a rock-n-roll tragedy. The remaining band members and their fans got some more bad news a couple of weeks back; when they learned their inspiration for the band’s title passed away. His name was Leonard Skinner and he was a gym teacher at the high school, where the band members attended in their youth. It was his name that would later get transformed in the name we know today as Lynyrd Skynyrd.

 Mr. Skinner was still living in Florida and passed away September 20th, 2010 at the age of 77. He died in his sleep at the Saint Catherine Laboure Manor; which is located in the northern part of Florida in Jacksonville. Leonard Skinner had been staying in Jacksonville, Florida for the past year; while battling Alzheimer’s disease.

Back during the late 1960′s decade is where these historic band members would meet the recently passed away gym teacher. Leonard Skinner was working; while the band members were students at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida.  After the band got famous and well known, they did come back home and played at their former gym teacher’s bar; which he was the owner of back then. It’s not really how clear or how well these two parties knew each other later on in life or how much they kept in contact with one another. I do think it’s safe to assume that the recently departed Leonard Skinner is one of the most famous gym teachers from the state of Florida. I guess the gym teacher and the 3 band members who were killed in the 1977 plane crash, are now getting reacquainted in Heaven. Who knows what thumb print on music Ronnie Van Zandt would have left with us, if he had been given a chance to live 77 years?

Fox Sports and their advertisers need to listen up. The executives at Fox sports is trying to over-charge sports fans for their favorite sports games. I’m glad Dish Network stood up to these guys at Fox Sports. While I am the biggest sports fan you can find and have already missed key pro baseball games and my favorite college football teams play in the last couple of days, I don’t mind it. Due to the greed going over at Fox Sports; who try to demand a 50% rate increase for their sports channels. This is crazy! Times are not as good as they were a few years ago. This country is going through some hard time financially and as Americans we need to ban together so our way of living can continue. Sports is only entertainment and a way for people to escape for a few hours on the weekend or through the week from their hectic lives. Now is not the time to be demanding more money for your services; which aren’t always up and running.

As an avid sports fan, I can tell you there are more audio and visual problems with Fox Sports than any other sports channel on television today. I get upset a lot that Fox Sports have all these technical issues and it really gets old seeing them coming from the same sports network over and over again. Now for their crappy service and unable to provide sports fans with the full video and audio effects of a lot of their sports programming, they want a rate hike of over 50% from every Dish Network subscriber? This is ridiculous and its time more of us stand up for our right like the people at Dish Network are doing.

I am calling for an all-out ban on any advertiser who decides to advertise on Fox Sports. Actually, I think we should take this one step further. While Fox News and Fox Business are not part of the ban on Dish Network’s side of things, I think we need to send a message to the whole Fox community of TV channels. Any advertiser who decides to advertise their products or services on any channel of Fox, I say we stop using their products or services. Even if Dish Network and Fox Sports reach an agreement, our ban on Fox TV commercials will extend for the next year. So for 1 year, any commercial you see on any Fox TV station, please don’t use or buy their product any more. I encourage all advertisers to stop using Fox TV for any promotional advertising. The people from Fox Sports are trying to take money out of our pockets for their programming and they decide to do it during these hard economical times.

Please join the fight and let’s teach the Fox company a lesson. We don’t need more expensive things in our lives right now. We need value and lower prices on everything across the board. People are losing their homes and are not working, due to the recent recession our country just recently went through. It’s time someone is taught a lesson and no better place to start; than with family of Fox TV Channels.

*Do not buy from any advertisers who try to sell their products on Fox News, Fox Business, or Fox Sports after October 10th. All advertisers have a 1 week notice to cancel their advertisements and promotions on any Fox TV station. This ban is going to be good until October 10th, 2011. A one year ban for all companies who want to air their products or services on the Fox Network.

Thank you Dish Network for looking out for your customers. I support you guys 100% with your decision to not pay these ridiculous price increases. It’s too bad the Directv customers have to pay companies like Fox for higher satellite television bills. I won’t be surprised if Fox Sports tries to increase their prices for those who use Direct TV. There is a reason why Dish Network customers pay less for their satellite television channels than those customers who use Dicrectv. It’s because of situations like this; which has been caused by the Fox family of TV stations.

Please sports fans who are using Dish Network to watch your sports programming. It wasn’t Dish Network that took your favorite sports games off the air. This was Fox Sports who demanded to Dish Network that they pull their channels off of their satellite TV choices. This problem has been caused by Fox Sports and we do not need to give in to their greedy demands. Stand up for what is right and understand missing a few sports games right now isn’t the end of the World. This issue is much bigger than just watching our favorite sports teams playing each week. We should not be placing judgment on the people from Dish Network. We should put the blame on those directly responsible and that is for the President, CEO, and other high-level executives from the Fox Sports channels. Thank you Dish Network and I am behind you 100% and we can wait this thing out; until Fox Sports comes to their senses!

Well the entertainment world has been shook up a little in recent months. News about one of the most popular shows on television has been causing a big stir. Fans seem to be upset with a lot of the new Idol changes as they prepare to unleash a new crew of American Idol Judges. It doesn’t look like Elton John or Howard Stern will be joining the judging panel. That’s too bad, because I think Howard Stern would be a good, funny, and interesting judge. While Sir Elton would be bringing a music legend to the panel; which the popular TV show has never had before. At least in the Elton John range of legends.

The new judges fans can look forward to seeing for the 10th year of the show’s running, will be Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler. There will be no Simon on American Idol anymore and this should be interesting to see if the show can survive without Simon. Nobody really likes the Idol Judge Simon Cowell that much, but he was a staple for the show and apparently greed and him wanting ridiculous money is why he will no longer be a judge for one of the most popular TV shows in the 21st century. Americans will now have a long wait and a chance to weigh in with the new Idol Judges and how they think they will do, before the show begins its 10th season on prime time TV. What do you think about Lopez, Tyler, and Jackson as the new American Idol Judges?

Halloween is coming and only one movie promises to make it a scream! The holiday that is more for kids than adults, but your household can have a very adult Halloween, if you choose one movie to watch this year. You know the satellite and cable channels will be showing all of the classic horror movies in October. I haven’t been able to see any signs on dish TV or cable TV, where the movie Trick R Treat will be airing. If you want to see this one, you may just have to buy it. You can spend $5 on a movie rental and watch it that way or for a couple of bucks more, just own the movie and have it to watch for every Halloween.

Now does that look like a good movie to watch this Halloween or what? I would love to see this new Halloween movie; which hasn’t been out long. This is certainly one you don’t want to watch with the kids around. A horror movie for adults only. I can’t even remember this one playing at movie theaters. They sneaked this one past me, because I love watching horror movies.

I believe this horror flick has all the makings for being a great and scary Halloween picture. I normally don’t mind watching scary movies alone at night by myself. I might just need someone with me for the way this one is appearing to look. The good news is it is on sale and that is a little surprising with Halloween night just around the corner. I think I will make plans now to watch this movie on Halloween night, so I get the full-effect of this movie. Adults may not even want to take the kids trick or treating, after they watch this one. Or perhaps you are in trouble, if you don’t follow the Halloween rituals? Not quite sure about that, but I am sure this would be a really good movie to see. If you like the modern horror movies; which seem a lot more real than the older ones.

Girls Enjoying Video Gaming

Watch out guys! Don’t lay that controller down for too long, there just might be a young gal around looking to grab her share of the gaming fun on the TV screen or with an online video game. Girls are turning out to be the next generation of gamers who are flooding the video game markets. The folks from Sony are already ahead of most other video game companies; when it comes to designing games and gaming systems with a girl in mind. Their gaming experts are working hard to create more ”girl-friendly” video games. They have already created a cool-looking pink gaming console that can perform just like the other ones they produced in the more basic colors. These pink systems are already on the shelf and ready for parents to buy them this Christmas holiday season. Farm Animals at the County Fair

Everyone gets excited when the fair rolls into town. I really enjoyed the fair as a youngster growing up. Now that I am grown up, I still love going to the fair. I love seeing all the bright lights from the fair rides, the screams, sounds of laughter, and all the good smells that come with the local county fair. The fair is a great time for Mom and Dad to take the little ones out for a fun evening and usually not that expensive either.

The Tilt-a-Whirl was always one of my favorite rides. I didn’t care much for heights, so wasn’t a big fan of the Ferris wheel, rocko-planes, or anything else that went too high up in the air. I will now ride those rides as an adult, but still prefer the ones that are closer to the ground. Most of the fair rides you do see low to the ground involve spinning and lots and lots of spinning.

It’s always best if you wait until later to eat. You’re better off riding these spinning rides on an empty stomach, so you don’t get sick. Also, don’t worry about playing the fair games when you first arrive. If you do luck up and win a prize, you will just have to carry it around with you all night. I always like to ride the rides first and worry about eating and games last. You might find good discounts on food toward closing time. The best balloon prizes are around the edges of the board. Don’t aim for the center balloons. You can find the nicer prizes around the edges on the balloon popping game. Be sure to bring Nolan Ryan with you, if you plan to throw the baseball and try to knock down the 3 bottles. These bottles are weighted in the bottom with lead and it’s almost impossible for the common person to knock them down. I have heard that the speed of the throw, isn’t as important as where you locate the ball on the 3 standing bottles. Practice at home before you go, so you can have a better idea on where you want to strike the 3 bottles with your best fastball.

My Favorite Fair Game

I love the quarters game at the fair or the coin pusher game. This is the game where you stick a quarter in and hope it can push the other quarters up enough, so you can win more quarters. The local fair in most cases will stick other prizes on top of the quarters, so you can win just more than quarters. A green dollar bill, 5 dollar bill, or 20 dollar bill are common prizes people try to win the most.

Now I have never been lucky enough to find a coin pusher game at the fair; which looks like this in the picture above. See how all those 5 dollar bills are about to drop off? If your quarter can push quarters off of the 2nd level and make it in good shape on the 1st level; then the bar will push up everything. The chances to win some nice green backs on this particular quarter machine looks real good. I can only dream about finding a coin pusher game at the county fair; which is this attractive.

The fair really makes a lot of money from their quarters game. Not all the money stays up and moves in a north and south direction. The way the fair makes a profit off of this fun game, is by having open sides on the east and west sides of the game. This means the bar or bars will be pushing quarters, bills, and other prizes in 3 directions, instead of just one. The math works out to about a 33% chance of you winning; while you earn the fair or the “house” about 66% of the total take. Even though the odds are stacked up against you, I still love playing this game. I don’t get too crazy trying to win the money bills that are placed out on the edges. I have seen people spend 40 or 50 dollars, trying to win a 5 dollar bill before. It’s the thrill of the game and the challenge to getting that 5 dollar bill, what makes people continue to throw quarter after quarter in; while they are getting further and further behind, in the profit margin of this fair game. Even though this game will cost me some money, I will still probably spend more money on this game; than anything else at the fair this year.

Our fair usually comes on the 2nd week in September. So even though I haven’t heard nothing yet or seen any signs hanging up. I do expect our local fair to be here next week. I just hope I can talk one of my adult buddies into joining me at the local county fair.
