Many people mistakenly think that a computed tomography scan (CTS) performed on the chest is painful, or at least uncomfortable. In fact, it is not. The process is completely noninvasive; it is non-surgical and does not require inserting anything into the body. Physicians use this method to generate an image of everything in your chest with far greater precision and detail than a conventional x-ray can offer. The computer can also create a 3D model by stacking multiple images.

By bathing the upper body area with harmless ionizing radiation, doctors can study any abnormalities or symptoms which may suggest heart disease. They can also study tumors, blood clots, or any other issues that may exist in or near the lungs. Below, we’ll explain what you can expect before, during, and after a computed tomography scan.

Before The Process

The machine used to bathe your chest in radiation is large. In its center, there is a tunnel through which your entire body is slowly moved as the computer takes x-rays. You’ll be asked to remove any foreign objects (i.e. dentures, piercings, jewelry, etc.) before you can be moved through the tunnel.

You should inform your doctor if you’re pregnant. You should also tell him or her if you suffer from any existing conditions, including allergies, diabetes, or heart disease. Because the tunnel through which you’re moved is relatively small, you should inform your doctor if you are claustrophobic.

During The Process

The CT scan only requires a few minutes. But the entire process, including preparation, takes approximately half an hour. Within the tunnel, there is a slender table on which you’ll be asked to lie. The table moves your body through the tunnel.

During the CT scan, while you’re lying on the table within the tunnel, you’ll hear clicking and whirring noises. Those noises are generated as the scanner within the machine takes pictures of your chest. There is also a technician who will communicate with you (through a speaker system) during the CTS. He or she may ask you to hold your breath or remain motionless to ensure the machine’s scanner takes clear pictures that are devoid of blurring.

After The Process

In most cases, you’ll be free to go home and resume your normal activities immediately following the CT scan. If you had received any medication to calm your nerves, you’ll likely need a friend or family member to drive you home. Occasionally, doctors will inject a contrast dye into your veins in order to highlight the chest area and produce images that are clearer. If they did so, you may have a small bruise at the point of injection.

The entire CT scan is largely unremarkable. However, it is a powerful tool that doctors rely upon to identify, or further study, potential problems with your heart and lungs.

The story of Michael Jackson continues to live on with his recent death a few weeks back. It’s amazing to see how many albums the late singer has sold in the month of July and this is looking more like the Elvis Pressley situation every day now. Elvis continues to make lots of money and he has been dead for over 30 years now. I assume the Jackson family will try to follow the same formula as the people related to Elvis has done and continue to grow his wealth 3 decades from now. You probably won’t find a sale on the Thriller album anytime soon.

I haven’t ever read any books on MJ, but I think it would be interesting to read the one Ian Halperin wrote called UnMasked. You can probably find this book at your favorite bookstore or any place online that sells books. I ran across this copy at Buy.com and they probably have it cheaper than any other place; since they are typically the best place online to find bargains. The part above his name that reads “The Final Years” is what caught my eye and this is probably information that most of the public is not aware of.

We all know the first half of the Michael Jackson story and a great movie was created to show the Jackson 5 story. The name of the movie is called An American Dream and it shows Michael and his brothers growing up in Gary, Indiana and how tough it was back then for them. His dad Joseph Jackson had a tough time feeding his family with very few jobs in Gary and the family being as big as it was. Their home was very small and it is still standing today. I am surprised that Michael or any of his other family members didn’t ever take time to invest in their old home place and create some type of tourist attraction for this part in Indiana. Gary is still considered a place where poverty exists and I haven’t heard of any of the Jackson’s millions ever being gave back to this poor community. Even with the lack of financial support from Michael, Janet, or any of the other family members, the community still showed up to support Michael Jackson’s untimely death. If you want to understand the Jacksons better; you should really see the 4 hour movie called An American Dream. I hope the book UnMasked reveals the 2nd half of the story or perhaps someone will create a movie or write a book on the entire story of Michael Jackson.

If you watch TV a lot like I do; it doesn’t take long to hear the words “Facebook” or “Twitter” on the television. Any website online can gain a tremendous boost of traffic to their site if their website address or name gets mentioned on TV. Factor in the amount of times you see a website like Twitter or Facebook making their way on our TV screens and you would have to say these social networking sites get a ton of traffic each day. I don’t want to get the bill for their hosting costs, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be that bad if you could obtain some of the rewards that is available for websites like these.

Do you have a preference for Facebook or Twitter? If you could only pick one website to be a member of and wasn’t allowed to join th other one; which one would you choose? Facebook? Twitter? Or perhaps another social networking site like MySpace or the popular videos from YouTube woud be your choice. I love the YouTube website and I am comfortable navigating my way around over there. Some of these other social networking sites I haven’t learned as well but I may have to change that in the near future. Judging by the TV programs I watch each day, I would say that Twitter probably has a slight edge over Facebook. At least that would be my guess and I have no idea which website boasts the highest numbers of members or users in their data base.

I think we are still in the early stages of social networking websites like these and who knows where the next hot website will come from in this growing industry. Is uploading a picture of yourself at Facebook more important than a Tweet you might get or could send out at Twitter? Who is the king between these two websites that have gained in popularity so fast? I like to play around online and take business-like approaches in the websites I choose to join online. Which website do you think would benefit better; for someone that is looking to earn money online?

By any chance have you ever heard of a website called APSense? This is a social networking website that is geared for online business and I see the value is greater here than Facebook or Twitter. I may be wrong and perhaps lacking in knowledge on how to use Twitter or Facebook to get the most for my online programs I hope to earn lots of money with some day. APSense is a free community anyone can join and my earnings are over 2 dollars there for a website that I rarely use. I have collected these earnings through the paid emails they send out from time to time that are mostly worth 5 cemts each. It just takes 2o emails from APSense to earn your first buck online. They say find a way to earn a buck and just do it a million times for a way to earn 1 million dollars online.

Towns all across America are set to begin their 4th of July celebrations. I know they have fireworks in my city located in North Georgia. The fireworks will begin for us around 10 PM tonight and there is always a big crowd on hand. I have several family members, relatives, and friends that plan to attend the 4th of July celebration tonight. I think I will skip all the festivities this year and try to make up for it next year. I have got behind on some work and need to catch up on it, so I can salvage the last part of my summer. Taking a day off now to celebrate would probably delay my work for the rest of the summer and I would like to get out of the house some this year.

I hope everyone has a great Saturday and a happy 4th of July weekend. Remember to buckle up the seat belts this weekend and look out for drunk drivers that will be on the roads this weekend too. It’s not a great time to go driving, but most will have to travel by car to get to their destinations this weekend. It appears the housing industry is catching up and home sales are going to start improving in the near future. This is good news for our struggling economy but it may still take some time to notice the changes. I did notice the changes at the gas pumps today and the cheapest gas you can get for your car is over $2 a gallon right now. This is pretty expensive and perhaps the prices jumped with it being a holiday weekend with Sunday being Mothers Day. Now people are looking for replacement parts like a PT Cruiser backup light to enhance their current ride or add to their new/used car purchase.

When times are hard we must find bargains and learn to use things that are 2nd best. People in the hunt for a new ride will want to look at the used cars before they go out and buy a new one. They are some really nice used cars you can find out there these days and many of your car dealerships do have a used car section on their lots. Go look at the used cars first and see if you can find one there that will make you just as happy as a brand new one.

We have all read and seen the turmoil that auto industry is going through with staying afloat and downsizing their exisiting dealers. The one are of transportation that appears to have not been affected is the motorcycle industry. The next race will take place this Saturday and its called the Belmont Stakes. If Calvin Borel can find a way to get Mine That Bird over the finish line this Saturday at Belmont, he will be making new history in the long tradition of horse racing. The experts do think the track favors the small philly Mine That Bird and not many are betting against Calvin Borel and his hopes of trying to make history this Saturday. The Belmont Stakes is the 3rd leg on the Triple Crown and usually it doesn’t get a lot of attention; unless there is a horse going for the Triple Crown award. All eyes will be watching this Saturday to see if a jockey can win the Triple Crown award. There has never been another jockey to win all 3 events and do it on two different horses.

Don’t expect Mine That Bird to jump out in the lead Saturday. It seems this horse likes to ride from the back of the field and you may see a slow start out of the gates. If Calvin Borel can find a place on that rail some where early in the race, we will get to see Mine That Bird challenge for the lead late. A lot of people will be rooting for Calvin Borel to make horse racing history this week at the Belmont Stakes. It seems everything is in his favor right now and even the odds makers think Calvin could win the Belmont Stakes and complete the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown for a jockey.

Things aren’t working well these days for “Little E” or Earnhardt Jr.. It seems Dale Earnhardt Junior just gets worse every race and not much hope in sight. The NASCAR circuit is full of really talented drivers and perhaps we are seeing the cream rise to the top right now and Dale Junior just isn’t the cream. His worse finish of the year came in North Carolina at the Coca Cola 600 yesterday. There is a lot of finger pointing going on right now, but I just don’t think Dale Earnhardt Jr. is that good of a driver.

Most of the blame now seems to be shifting to his crew chief Tony Eury. We might get to see Tony Eury Jr. get replaced in the near future as Dale’s crew chief, but I don’t think that will help much. Sometimes it’s not the car’s fault and it’s the driver inside not knowing what to do can be the root of the problem. A NASCAR driver must be like a doctor for his car each Sunday. Diagnosing what’s wrong or what’s working good can make the difference at the finish line. This is why Jeff Gordon has been such a good driver for so many years in NASCAR. His ability to tell the pits what to fix or change has made his in-race adjustments to get better results at the end of the race. Dale Earnhardt Junior doesn’t have this gift; nor is he willing to work hard in the off season to become a better driver. A new crew chief isn’t the answer for the 88 team and they need a new driver in the car that can help them on the track.

The most popular driver remains Earnhardt and even NASCAR gives him breaks and shows a lot of favoritism. Since the playoff system has been in effect, NASCAR has tried to get Little E in the top spots to compete for a championship near the end of the year. We first saw the top 10 drivers that get to advance at the end of the season and when Dale Earnhardt missed this cut; NASCAR changed it to a 12 driver format. This didn’t help much because Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not one of the best 12 drivers NASCAR has to offer each week. His popularity may start to slip this season if the 88 team doesn’t find a way to win a race in the near future.

I can still remember what my very first car was and I know people don’t forget those sorts of things. I traded a 4 wheeler to my brother-in-law for a 1979 Toyota pickup truck. That little truck ran great and I never did have any problems with it. It had well over 100,000 miles on it when I first got it, so the car insurance was really cheap. I sometimes wonder who has that little Toyota truck now and if it’s still running. I kept it for a year or two and eventually traded it in on a 1987 Jeep Wrangler. It was a big upgrade for me at the time and there was nothing like those first few days with my brand new Jeep.

Now the new Jeep I got wasn’t really new just new to me. It was in the early 1990′s when I got it and I did have a few problems with my Jeep Wrangler. I had lots of electrical problems with that Jeep and I think they were problems from the previous owner that had it. The thing I liked best about the Jeep was taking the top off and going cruising. There isn’t anything better than a Jeep with no top and riding down the highway. I put a lot of miles on that Jeep and for the most part it held up pretty good. Years later I would get a much nicer Jeep and I was able to create a lot of those old memories I had with my new Jeep. I don’t think too many people forget their first car or the 2nd one either.

We recently moved into a new home that has a three car garage. The original thought was that our new home would be bigger and have more storage and going from a two car to a three car garage would be a nice upgrade. I would actually be able to park my car in the garage even with the kids toys, and some of my tools left in place. While the garage is definitely bigger we have decided that we need garage storage cabinets that will help hide a lot of the junk that we know have in our garage. We were fortunate to be show a site that has a great assortment of garage storage cabinets in various colors even in steel. I would love to have the storage units that we have pictured on our blog and eventually will make that purchase. This new look will enhance the value of the home as well as present much nicer when we leave the garage door open.
