Long Sleeve Weather is Here

For those with the keen eye for fashion will notice this look a lot right now. See how the school boy has his long sleeve shirt on; while wearing shorts? It seems for a lot of kids and adults too, we will see the long sleeve shirts come out first and it takes the pants a little longer to be put away. This is actually fine and the shirts with sleeves are more important than the length of the pants. Most of our body heat escapes from the top of our head and also from the other parts of the upper body. Less heat is lost from around the area of the legs, so a long sleeve shirt with a pair of shorts is acceptable for the next 2 or 3 weeks. After that, we all should have long everything and our warm jackets too. Our children are tough and can sometimes brave the cold air better than we can, but this doesn’t mean we should let them wear summer clothes during this time of the year.

So be sure to put away the short sleeve shirts this weekend and let the kids know for Monday morning, they will be wearing their winter shirts from now on. The short pants can still be worn, since they’re not located in a place where heat is lost or retained too much. After you go out and places your votes for the first Tuesday in November, it would be a good reminder then; that the shorts need to be put up, until spring rolls around again. I believe the 2010 elections is a perfect time and reminder, for all parents, to start putting their school-age kids in full-winter outfits.  If your kids have any disagreements with you, just show them this blog post and tell them I am a professional clothing outfitter and maybe this will help to convince them. Good luck and be sure to dress warmly with your family too.

  • Reaching Out to Friends and Family

There are a lot of different moments in life, where we want to pass on these special events with our friends and family. Sending a personalized card is one of the best ways to keep everyone updated during these celebrated events. For instance, if your family just delivered a new baby boy or girl to the family, you would want to share these moments. For anyone who helped or gave assistance during the baby’s arrival, you might want to send out some baby thank you cards, to these special friends and family members. There are places online that can help you to reach out to these people you want to thank most in your life. It’s a great way to show them how much you care and how you are still keeping them in your daily thoughts. I wish there were more family reunions and other events; which would keep all families up-to-date on what’s going on in their lives.

  • 33 for 33 in Chile

What started out as a night time rescue in the South American Country of Chile on Tuesday, would finish up the next day during the daylight hours. No one has ever been trapped under ground for 69 days and live to tell about it. Main reason why, is probably due to the lack of food, water, and medical resources needed to survive that long. These miners were smart. What probably saved their life, was the fact they started to ration a 2 day supply of food, as soon as they knew they was trapped. It would take 17 days later, before people above ground would even know if the men were still alive or not. After 17 days, the answer was “33 for 33” meaning this was how many men had survived. Now 69 days later, we can say “33 for 33” for the number of miners rescued!

It’s a great story and one that ends on a positive note. I’m sure all 33 men will now be portrayed in some big Hollywood movie. It should be interesting to see how many of the 33 miners will go back to the underground areas of Chile. This mine will be closed from any further mining practices. These 33 men were mining for gold and copper; which was over 2,000 feet below the Chilean surface. They made a descent wage of around $400 each, but not a price anyone would take to remain underground for over 2 months.

This is a fascinating story and I am still trying to understand what these men went through. It may take me a couple of months, to just fully understand what these men went through and all of the obstacles they faced. A simple headache or stomach ache becomes magnified; when there isn’t an aspirin or a soft bed to lay down on. I guess people in jails and prisons can relate to these men’s stories, but now imagine that in the pitch black darkness these men faced day after day. I can imagine it took a couple of days for the men to just understand where everyone was and to create some type of buddy system, that would keep any of them from getting separated from the pack. These men did have long passage ways they could go exploring through, but it would have been highly dangerous, even for the most experienced underground miners. Let’s just hope the mining company they work for, will return some of this gold from this specific mine, to these 33 miners, who sacrificed their lives in the deep undergrounds of Chile.

  • A lot of world wide attention is being casted on the Simpsons cartoon right now. Many want to know how they could get away with it and did the show, Fox Network, and others approve this? These adult oriented cartoons like the Simpsons or Family Guy has always been a lightning rod for attention. I believe they do controversial stuff all the time, but most people are not aware of it. Ever once in awhile they hit a home run of controversy and that is exactly what happened on Sunday night, for the October 10th airing of the Simpsons cartoon. Here is the Bansky Sinpsons Intro or the Controversial Simpsons Intro that has got everyone talking.

The Simpsons Controversial, Bleak, and Extended Intro

    YouTube Preview Image

What is your opinion? Did you take offense?

I thought the controversial intro for the Simpsons Cartoon was a little creepy. It leaves you with a strange feeling and I believe it’s the music you hear playing in the background, that causes this to happen. Overall, I don’t really see what the big deal is. I have seen the Simpsons do a lot of controversial things over the year and this one isn’t the worse in my opinion. I actually don’t think it would even make the top 10. However, each week the Simpsons create a new intro for their show. This could be the most controversial Simpsons Intro ever, but as far as subject matter on the show, it’s nothing for my top 10 list.

The Simpsons cartoon has been on television for 22 years now. They have a unique formula for their success on television; which most TV shows can’t copy. The beauty about using cartoon characters over real life actors and actresses, is the fact they don’t age. Bart Simpson will be a school boy for as long as the show wants him to be. Let’s hope that is for a mighty long time, because they did experiment with aging the family before. Seeing Bart Simpson as an adult is not what you want to see. He’s much better as the wise-cracking school boy. I have been a fan of the Simpsons cartoon for a long time. It never ceases to amaze me, what these guys can come up with. Their latest show from Sunday night’s prime time Fox line-up proves that. They had to know their extended intro for the show would draw some attention, but I doubt they figured it would be this popular. I’m sure with everyone talking about the Simpsons Intros now, it will be motivation to come up with a few more, extended intros for the future episodes. There is already a pretty long list of intros that went beyond their normal time allotments. I wouldn’t be surprised if we tune in one day and see the Simpsons whole 30 minute program, as just one big intro.

  • Latest Information on Honeybees

In recent years the honeybee has been dying off in record numbers and nobody knows why. This isn’t just a U.S. honeybee problem, but has been happening in other places of the world. Pesticides and cell phone towers has been the main focus. Both of these things seemed possible to our declining honeybee population. Now things have changed and a new focus has emerged in the world of honey bees. It seems a new culprit is now being blamed to all of the honeybee problems we are currently facing.

This new threat to honeybee hives is being directed toward culprits. This occurs when a fungus and virus both come together in wet and cool environments and began to flourish. If separate, the fungus nor the virus causes any harm to the honey bees. It is when they combine with one another that is causing the greatest concern for scientists and entomologists world wide. Perhaps putting a stop to this new threat or finding a cure can stop this vicious cycle of the honeybee population from declining. Another term that describes honeybees on the decline is called Colony Collapse Disorder.

As minor as this problem might seem, if we ever lost the honeybee all together, it would change the world as we know it. Honey bees produce honey and there is so many things that get made each day with the use or help from honey. Without honey, a lot of things would no longer exist. Also, bees play an important part to pollination and makes our crops grow faster and produce more fruits and vegetables. If this pollination from honeybees stopped all together, we would be forced to manually populate millions of plants that honey bees do naturally every year. It would be a much greater cost if we had to pollinate our own crops each year. Our food supply is already below the amount needed to feed the world as it is now. If honey bees ever totally disappear; then our food shortages would increase even more.

You fill up the bowl with lots of candy and then sit back and watch people try to get candy from these talking and moving candy bowls. You will have hours and hours of fun with these cool bowls with sensors in them, so they will know when someone tries to grab a piece of candy.

The Raven animated candy bowl would be one of the best ones to get. This one can really put a good Halloween scare into a few folks. This one is a little bit different from the other ones, but it is still effective for making people jump; when they try to get a piece of candy from the Raven’s bowl. The sensor in this Halloween bowl will alert the Raven when someone is trying to get a piece of candy out. Then the Raven or the bird will turn its body, flap its wings, and the eyes will also light up. This is sure to get the attention of anyone who tries to get a Halloween snack from this moving bird bowl.

  • Find a Nickname for Austin Rivers

Help try to find a new nickname for this future NBA star. Austin Rivers is the son of Doc Rivers, the NBA Coach for the Boston Celtics team and a former NBA player. Recently Austin has committed to joining the Duke Blue Devils in North Carolina for the 2011 NCAA college basketball season.

    Nickname Choices for Austin Rivers:

    Austin Powers?

Allen Iverson was known as “A.I.” Maybe “A.R.”? Or is that Arkansas abbreviation talk?

His Dad used Doc as a nickname. Since this is Doc Junior we could do “DJ” (for Doc Junior) or even R2 D2? The D2 standing for the Doc 2.  Or since he will be a Blue Devil at Duke, how about D-Blue D2 (Duke Blue and Doc 2?).

Now the kid does have a great long range shot. A nickname with Austin City Limits would work real nice for this young man, who can shoot 3′s all day long from the 3 point stripe. “Austin 3 Point Limits” ???

Those are some of the things I have came up with so far. I would like to hear some of your new and creative nicknames for Austin. Let’s have his nickname in place before he ever takes the basketball court at Duke and plays in his first ACC game. I look forward to hearing your suggestions for a nickname for Austin Rivers.

  • The 7th inning between the Braves and Phillies got a little interesting; when a generic looking Spider-Man ran onto the field. A fan looking for his 15 minutes of fame, decided to take his fame in the MLB game between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night in Philadelphia. The runaway Phillies fan was doing a pretty nice job eluding the security people in Philadelphia, until the Braves Left Fielder decided to take action. The Brvaves Matt Diaz help to end the conflict early, by stepping in the way of the much smaller Phillies fan, who was running wild in the outfield.

Matt Diaz Plays Security Guard in Philadelphia

    YouTube Preview Image

Diaz has been one of the bright spots for the Braves team this year. He’s probably the best hitter on the team, but unfortunately Bobby Cox doesn’t see it that way. It’s been hard for Matt Diaz to get any playing time this year, but when he has, he has delivered time after time. He’s a bat you want hitting in your clean-up spot every night. A player who can drive the ball into the gaps hard, over the fence, steal a base for you, and come up with timely hits with runners in scoring position. If the Braves would have let Matt Diaz hit in the 4th spot all season long and allowed Brian McCaan in the 3rd spot of the batting order, this team would have a double digit lead in the East and would be preparing for post season. The coaching has just been brutal in the ATL all year long and the team never did figure out who their best 8 position players were. It they had, we would have been talking a lot more about Matt Diaz as a baseball player and not the security guard he played Monday night in Philadelphia.

Coaching in baseball is really pretty simple. Just play your best 8 players and your team will play up to their expectations. When you don’t do this, like Cox has did in Atlanta over the last few years, you only allow room for other teams to beat you. You only create problems when you begin to play favorites or allow money contracts to dictate your starting line-ups. A good example of this is Chipper Jones batting in the 3rd spot last season as a .260 hitter and really for most of the year, wasn’t showing any signs of improvement this year.

Chipper Goes on Television High from Pain Pills

Soon after the season-ending injury that came to Chipper Jones this year, the Braves TV crew thought they would invite him up stairs for some time in the broadcast booth. The original night Chipper was suppose to go on the air, he mysteriously cancelled on the TV Crew for the Braves. However, he did make plans to show up the next night and apparently I am the only one who saw him as being doped up.

He came on television talking about all sorts of crazy stuff and doing a lot of extended speeches, much like someone does when they are high on drugs. It was really obvious during the Jason Heyward part of the night, when Chipper was talking about the Say Hey Kid from Atlanta. He said Jason would have to figure it out for his own, because he could tell him what he thinks he needs to do and Terry Pendleton could tell him his ways, but it would be up to Jason to finally figure out how to hit major league pitching. Chipper would go on to say, that he didn’t agree with what TP (Terry Pendleton) was teaching the kid and Pendleton probably didn’t agree with the things Chipper was trying to teach Jason Heyward. You could clearly see Chipper Jones was given some powerful pain pills for his surgery operation and was on them; while carrying on in the booth with the Braves TV announcers. How many active baseball players do you know call out their hitting coaches on television and no one says jack about it? Probably a little protection for Chipper and the fact he was high on drugs and should not have been on live television. I’m beginning to think the night before, when they said Chipper was the one who cancelled, if it was really the TV folks stopping Chipper from going on, because he was too pilled up that night. I’m sure the previous night had something to do with drugs, but the 2nd night was just as bad, because you could clearly see the often quiet Chipper was talking up a storm and rambling in a lot of different directions. Bottom-line, the left-fielder for the Braves last night who stopped the Phillies fan on the field has been a much better baseball player than Larry “Chipper” Jones has for the last 2 seasons.

  • Indoor Crowd Control

Maybe one day when I become a famous book author, crowds will be lining up for me to sign copies of my book. I will have to remind my staff to put up barricades, so we can keep things in a orderly fashion. I don’t have to wory much about that right now, since I haven’t came up with a good book idea yet and don’t have any writing works with my name attached to them.

I could get famous in another way. I love to go out searching for gold up and down the rivers and creeks where I live. Perhaps I could find the World’s largest gold nugget and people would line-up to get a glance of it. I would certainly have to have some tight security, if this glorious moment was to ever happen to me. I would have to become a fast learner of indoor crowd controls, so I could be sure my huge nugget stayed protected. The rock itself would not be available for touching and I would have it securely locked away behind some plexi-glass. To keep hands and noses off of the glass, I could put out some of that nice-looking velvet rope around the display case. This would be a classy touch for the World’s biggest golden rock. The only thing needed to make this dream become a reality, is that big gold nugget; which I haven’t found yet.

I pay attention at the movies, sporting events, and other places where crowd control enforcement is needed. So I can be prepared, if any unexpected fame did ever come my way. The bad news is nothing ever exciting ever happens to me, but the good news is I haven’t gave up. I believe we all do get our 15 minutes of fame and I can’t wait until it’s time for my fifteen minutes to arrive. I’m just glad someone has took the time to establish indoor crowd control standards, so I will know how to set up my stanchions properly; when the time does come for me to hold back the crowds of adoring fans.

  • Remembering 9/11 in America

The way the World Trade Center Towers in New York City looked on the morning of September 11th, 2001. It’s a day America and New York will never forget. The Pentagon in northern Virginia was also a target on that sad September morning. A 4th plane crashed in a Pennsylvania field, where all passengers, crew members, and pilots were instantly killed.  All of this took place 9 years ago today and it’s a day that is still fresh in every Americana’s mind, for those that watched the events of 9/11 unfold on television.

We won’t ever stop remembering this day for as long as we live. America will never forget!

  • The Bulldogs from Athens are still undefeated with their temporary UGA mascot named Russ; as they plan to replace him with a real UGA mascot later in the year. It will be a tough game Saturday, as the Georgia Bulldogs travel to South Carolina and try their first SEC opponent for the 2010 college football season.

Georgia Tech doesn’t have an easy game either. The gold and black from Tech will try to stay perfect against Kansas in their NCAA college football match up. It’s been a nice start for them, as they easily won last Saturday and now the real test comes, to see just how good this G.T. football team really is in 2010.

Which college football team do you see having a better record in the state of Georgia this season?

    A. Georgia Bulldogs

    B. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

    C. Finish with Matching Records

I know the quarterback is an important position. I would have chose Tech to have the better record, since they bring in a very experienced QB in Josh Nesbitt. He is a descent passer for Tech’s air game, but Nesbitt uses his feet a lot in the Yellowjacket system. The Bulldogs have a red-shirt freshmen taking all of their snaps, so it would have been tough to say the Bulldogs would win more games than the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Well, after seeing the week 1 performance against Louisiana Lafayette’s Rajun Cajuns, I think the your QB for Georgia Aaron Murray is going to be just fine. I know the competition level was weak last Saturday, but you could still tell this kid is for real. I will go ahead and compare him to the Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. I believe Athens will be buzzing all year long, for this Dawg at quarterback. I just hope Murray and Richt come together and forget this sharing the ball on offense and will use their main weapon A.J. Green. The best wide receiver in college football won’t get to play Saturday against the Gamecocks, since he’s been suspended 4 games by the NCAA, for selling a football jersey for $1,000. It’s believed the person paying for the expensive shirt, was an agent or related in some way to an agent. No Green for Georgia, could make things interesting in Carolina Saturday.

  • Did you ever have a Halloween costume that stuck out from all of the others? I never did miss one night, when it came to trick or treating on October 31st as a kid. I think my best Halloween costume was when I was in my later teens and I dressed up like one of the members from the KISS band. I never did listen to their music much, but there were a few songs I liked by them. My favorite KISS song was Beth. The Beth song by KISS is a good slow ballad and the drummer for KISS wrote this song for his wife. It was never meant to be one of their recorded songs, but in a desperate move in the recording studio, they decided to try it. And the rest is history!

  • SEC Football Is Back!

Strike up the band and bring on the cheerleaders! The 2010 college football season is officially underway and it’s great to have football back on the tube. I sat down today and watched my Georgia Bulldogs take on a team from Louisiana, known as the Rajun Cajuns. It was a good opening day for red-shirt quarterback Aaron Murray. I really like this kid from Plant City High School in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. He led his high school team to a state championship and I think he could lead the Bulldogs to a BCS Bowl Game. He was really impressive in his debut and a lot of fans around Athens should be excited about this kid they have now, taking over the QB duties for Joe Cox at Georgia.

Other SEC teams did well on this first opening day of college football. All the N.C. troubles in the Tar Heel land was suppose to be a easy victory for another team from Louisiana. The LSU Tigers had to paw their way to win in the Georgia Dome Saturday night, but they did manage to hold on and win their first game of the year.

The Bulldogs from Georgia will get tested next week with the Old Ball Coach in Steve Spurrier, as the Dawgs travel over to South Carolina for a noon time battle next Saturday. Normally this game has been on ESPN in the evenings. I’m not sure what brought on the time change, but probably the National guys wanting to give less exposure to the conference who has won the last 4 national championships in college football. They still don’t want to believe the best football is played in the South and recognize the SEC has the best talents. Those ACC teams get their talent from the same southern gene pool too, so the ACC football teams are right there with the SEC football teams. All other conferences in college football are less talented and fans don’t see the talent level, like they do when they watch teams from the ACC and SEC play on Saturdays in college football. Who is your favorite SEC or ACC college football team?
