I really miss my younger days with the jeep. I use to take the top down, put on my black cowboy hat, and ride the country roads of Cherokee County in North Georgia. Those were the days! Normally I would have a good music tape in or the radio playing extra loud. You do have to turn the radio up, if you want to hear the music, while going 50 or 60 miles per hour. The wind can get pretty loud, so turning up the tunes is a MUST, if you drive around with the top off. I get so jealous when I see other convertible vehicles on the road. Especially if it is a red jeep, because the one I use to have was red. It was a candy apple red with black trim. I had the big tires on it, screen wire over the headlights and taillights, plus an extra set of lights on the hood. The lights on the hood had the screen wire-look over them too. I could just flip a switch and turn these lights on. It was great for driving through the fog or lighting up a big area. One night while driving with the top down, I came across an accident scene. I was able to turn off the road with my front tires, so I could point my lights toward the off-road accident. Once my headlights was on the wrecked car, I was able to add extra lights, with those powerful hood lights. It worked great! Everyone was able to see what they were doing and I stayed there, until the fire department got their big utility lights out.

On Friday or Saturday evenings, I like to dress up and go cruising the local streets. My black Cowboy Hat was sharp. It was a big part of my “look” back then. My red jeep was all shiny from the good washing and waxing I would give to it. I would take a good polish and buff up the black trim, so it would stick out. My black tires would stick out too, since they were shinning brightly as well. Then I would be wearing a normal shirt, blue jeans, my cowboy boots, and that sharp cowboy hat, that everyone loved. I got as many compliments on my black hat, as I did for my Jeep Wrangler. I really do miss those days.

Now I am a decade older and I feel older too. The jeep is long gone and only a picture or two is the only memories I have of it. As for my black cowboy hat, I still have it. I keep it in the original box it came with. You have to do this with cowboy hats. If they don’t stay in a proper holder; then gravity tends to spoil them a bit.

Just this past Halloween, I got the old cowboy hat out. I put it on, along with my jeans, and boots. I took some black make-up and painted a beard on my face. Put on my western-style brown jacket and strapped on a BB pistol to my side. I didn’t go out or ever leave the house in my cowboy costume, but the nephews got a kick out of it. I have twin 6 year-old nephews and I dressed up for them, cause I knew they would be stopping by to trick or treat that night. So that was the last time, I wore my hat, but I still have it.

Not the way it was suppose to end. It just wasn’t suppose to end like this. Jorelys Rivera was a 7 year old girl living in Canton, Ga. She woke up Friday morning like all other school children did that morning, who attended Canton Elementary in Cherokee County. Her mom Joselin working an all night shift at Pilgrims Pride, a chicken plant off of Univeter Road in Canton, didn’t make it home in time to see Jorelys off to school. While Joselin the mother was probably tired, after working all night, she was in need of some sleep. Jorelys would ride the bus to school and would return home several hours later, in the late afternoon hours on December 2nd, 2011. Obviously Jorelys wasn’t too tired after school, as she would head outside to the playground at River Edge Apartments, off of Reinhardt College Parkway in Canton.

It really wasn’t that cold outside, for this 2nd day of December. It was actually a very mild and pleasant day outside in the North Canton area, just off of Riverstone Blvd. After playing around with her friends on the playground at River Ridge, Jorelys decided to go for some drinks. From what I have heard, it would appear she was able to get 4 cokes to drink. Obviously we see the signs of a very sweet girl here, as she was grabbing soft drinks for others, who were probably thirsty too, like Jorelys was that Friday day. The winter afternoon was starting to disappear, as the early evening hours was coming on fast and the kids outside didn’t have much daylight left, to stay playing on the playground.

While Jorelys coke run was around 5 p.m. that early evening; little did we all know at this time, she would only see one more person in her short lifetime. None of the kids on the playground could verify Jorelys coming back, after she left for drinks. Her teenage babysitter couldn’t place Jorelys around after she had left the playground. There was just no one around, who knew what had happen or where she might have went.

Knowing how this story would eventually end, it makes the next 90 minutes pretty tough to deal with. Like I said earlier, Jorelys only saw 1 other person, after her friends at the playground and the baby sitter had lost sight of her. The happiness and excitement that must have been with this child, on a early Friday evening day, where she was out of school for the weekend and just went to grab a drink to quench her thirst. At least I would like to think that she did take a few sips of that can Coca-Cola she ran to get; while the rest of her friends stayed at the playground.

For some reason, there was another person at the apartment complex that day, that had no business being there. I don’t know who they are, but even if they lived in River Edge Apartments in Canton, they still had NO BUSINESS BEING THERE! Not when their only desire was to physically grab a small 7 year old girl, beat her, stab her, and all of the other terrible things they chose to do that day. It makes no sense and there is no excuse! Whether the person was a teenager or a full grown man (i’m assuming gender based on the words of Vernon Keenam at the GBI Press Conference Tuesday Mornig), they should have been there at this place and time, with a smile for Jorelys and not any violent actions. This person should have been there, ready to help Jorelys or defend her from anything which might have scared her. Not taking it upon their self to be the attacker, to such a defenseless person. Even after the first hit or stabbing action, there should have been some voice of reasoning to come in and say “stop!“. Sure the community would have been upset, the police would have came, and the hunt would have been on for a person, who hit or stabbed a small child. This awful scenario would have still been a million times better; than the true story of Jorelys Rivera and her attacker.

The family, friends, community, and the whole state of Georgia are now left with a big void and asking the question “why?”. After 5 p.m. on Friday, only the attacker had the chance to see her last. Once the local officials did get involved, they wasted no time Friday night looking for her and assembling a massive team of law enforcement.

Many are aware of the Amber Alert, which is a warning system to alert everyone in a certain state, that a child has been taken. Once the Amber Alert is given out, there is some type of details that follow, so the public can help. In Georgia, we have the Levi Alert; which works the same way as the Amber Alert does nationwide. No Levi Alert was issued Friday night or during the weekend hours, since there was no eyewitnesses or any other information; which the authorities could have passed along to the public. The GBI in Georgia does admit, they like to reserve the Levi Alert as much as possible, so it will be more effective, when a child does go missing. The Canton Police Department and the Cherokee County Sheriffs Office had no information, which they could relay to the public. I hope the family of Jorelys Rivera understands this part of the search process. I would be the first one screaming “foul” if I thought the local or state officials did anything, in the least little bit, to delay the search for Jorelys.

Once Saturday morning arrived on December the 3rd, it was clear this story did have some mystery to it. I heard for the first time on Saturday, from the local television news, that a little girl was missing in m hometown. So for me, I was just getting the news, when others close to the case had already been working it for 24 hours. I can’t imagine how slow or how fast the time went by or didn’t go by, for the family and friends of Jorelys. The daylight hours of Sunday would soon arrive and still no word or any new information. Once the Sun went down Sunday night, the investigators began to look more in one direction. That direction was abduction.

The local TV station in Atlanta, Fox 5 News at 10 p.m., still did not see the missing girl in Canton as the top story. It was the preacher or Bishop Eddie Long who would grab the top headline spot, as their news cast began that night. The Bishop was taking a leave from his church post in Atlanta. After reporting this news story first Sunday night, the second story was about Jorelys. The main topic of the night was basically no new leads and the search would be extended. It was also reported and a local official in Canton, said they had already “searched 35 acres approximately“.

I think the fear really sits in now. After hearing about a search of this size and how much ground they had covered around the River Edge Apartments, it would seem Jorelys was in a vehicle and away from her home area. Or her abductor was holding her hostage, in a area the authorities have not yet searched.

Monday morning arrives and now all the characters are in place. There are 65 investigators on the scene, the City, County, and State Police were all present. The G.B.I. or Georgia Bureau of Investigation was in Canton and was the lead authority (it appeared). Plus the F.B.I. was present and ready to lend their help and resources to the local and state officials, who were actively working on this case. Now with so many agencies, people, local and national media helping out; you just had the feeling something was going to develop in the near future.

It was later that day, which would end the search process for the missing Canton girl. In a stunning conclusion, it turns out that little Jorelys Rivera, the 1st grader from Canton Elementary School, was about 100 yards away from the playground she was seen at last.

The person who took her away from us, on Friday evening around 5 pm, had taken her life within 90 minutes of making contact with her. A later autopsy would show a blunt force trauma to the head, stab wounds, and a “severe beating” as the GBI Director worded it. After killing her, the killer would dispose of her, like some piece of trash, in a nearby dumpster. This was a large compact dumpster and it did contain a lot of trash in it. One resident living in the River Edge Apartments said, “I put trash in that dumpster over the weekend“. I believe the resident was thinking, Jorelys was placed in the dumpster, shortly after her life ended on Friday. Like the killer would have killed her and then placed her in the dumpster a short time later. I’m not so sure this is what happened. It is the most likely way, the events would play out, but none of us know for sure, what day or time Jorelys was placed in the dumpster.

I do know the sniffing dogs were on the scene. Knowing the dumpster is only 100 yards away, it would seem like the dogs would have picked up the scent. The human body does start decomposing pretty quickly, after we have taken our last breath. Maybe the human nose would have not smelled anything on Saturday, but the dogs could have. Also, the entire day on Sunday went by and still no trace. It does make one wonder, at what time or on which day would she have been brought to the dumpster.

Authorities did go knocking on doors, at a little after midnight one night. Some residents were asked questions; while others just had a quick search of their apartments. And I must say, the residents who had this untimely search, to be conducted on them, did not have any problems with it. The police did say everyone was very coopoerative and that is always a good sign, when something like this happens. Lord knows, we don’t need any outside distractions, when the main focus must stay on the main problem at hand; which in this case, was the 7 year-old Canton girl Jorelys Rivera.

Now we all know where the story goes from here. It’s time to find us a killer and with 65 investigators and a great apartment community helping out, I am sure an arrest will be made real soon! There is a $15,000 award being offered, for anyone who will give out information, that leads to an arrest and a conviction.

Most of the equestrian clothes I have seen over the years, look real good on the riders. Now a new trend is starting up and it comes from young ladies; who don’t even own a horse. Since I started watching this show, it has made me want to start buying these storage units, like the cast of this popular TV show. It’s really pretty simple on how it works. Someone who rented out a storage locker, so they could store their stuff in it at one time. Now months or years later, the owner of the storage locker has not paid, forgotten, got ill, or various other reasons, so they lose all their items inside. The owners will take these unpaid units and auction them off to the public. The person with the most cash is the one who wins the storage locker. Sounds easy enough, right?

Well I wanted to learn more about this business, cause it does look like a good investment. People on the show are commonly spending 500 to 2 thousand dollars and getting some items inside the locker that are more valuable. The folks bidding on the locker can’t go inside these units. They must stand outside and only have a short peek inside and have to try and determine what the storage locker is worth. I know for me to start this business, I would obviously need a lot of cash to begin with. I know these guys buy a lot of junk, so making trips to the dump would be another expense one would have to pay in this line of business. I would like to take me a small metal table with those rolling wheels on them or casters on the bottom of a sturdy table. In case I did win a bid or two, I would like to have something to put my storage items on and be able to roll them away easily. I currently drive a car, so I know a good used pick-up truck would be a must for this business.

Over all, I think I could get everything I need for $3,000 or less and then I would only need me a big wad of cash, so I could afford to buy these unknown goodies in these lockers. It has been a nice 5 year run online with YouTube for Rhett and Link. They both say they will continue to do their YouTube Videos and promote their customers here online. I know the TV commercials are going to become real popular in the near future, as the fan base from the television crowds begin to grow. If you would like to watch the Rhett & Link: Commercial Kings on IFC, be sure to check your local listings. Most of you should be able to tune-in at 10 P.M. on Friday Nights and watch their new episodes. Usually IFC will show an encore of the Friday night telecast again, in the early, wee hours of Saturday morning. Bathroom Hand Dryer

After this, I like to brush my teeth. I will make it a point, at some time in the morning, to brush my teeth. Again, I hear other folks who will do their brushing the night before and will not eat breakfast at home, so they skip on brushing their teeth. I need that clean feeling from a shower to help wake me up, but a clean mouth is very important to me. I must whip out the toothbrush, because I will notice it while driving to work, if I have forgot to brush my teeth.

I know we are all different and we all do different jobs. Even if I had a dirty job, that didn’t require a clean employee, I would still do the shower, wash the hair, dry off with towels and a hand dryer, and making sure my teeth is clean. This cleaning process in the morning helps me to wake up. So even if I will be dirty once I arrive to work, I at least want to be awake. I’m not someone who is happy or talkative in the morning. So each little pleasure I can find before going to work in the A.M. hours, I will take full advantage of. What about you? What are some of the common routines you do in the mornings before work, like everyone else does? Do you have one or two things that only you do in the morning time? I believe my lazy winter days are over now. I usually like to plant my garden right after Easter Sunday. I missed my chance this year, but the temperatures got really cold last week. The locals around here call this Blackberry Winter. The time during the spring, where the weather has warmed up and that last cold spell of the year comes in unexpected. This is Black Berry Winter and it is very cold and has a lot of wind blowing on these days. So maybe it is good that I didn’t start my vegetable garden yet. My mama has some roses in the front yard and they are all out in full bloom. Our front yard looks more like a business or dental office than a home right now.

The indoor work is going to be rough on me this year too. I have not cleaned up my bedroom in a long time and it is overdue for a good spring time cleaning. I believe I will begin my indoor work first and work my way to the outside of the house. So I won’t be on the computer as much as I would like to, for the next several weeks. As I try to get my spring time cleaning done and plant a small vegetable garden outside.

The Waffle House Restaurants are famous for cooking up their hashbrowns to your liking. If you walk into a Waffle House one day, you will probably hear the waitress hollering at the cook, to “scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, diced, and topped” the hash browns. Well last week, a tornado in Ringgold, Georgia did that to the whole entire Waffle House restaurant. It was a sad day for the residents living and working around the Ringgold, Georgia area. This tornado destroyed their whole town. The local McDonald’s restaurant suffered its own damage, like the Waffle House and other restaurants in Ringgold. You may not be able to find a Ringgold restaurant today, but you will find a lot of grateful citizens in Ringgold. They were very lucky to only loose 8 people from this terrible storm, that just leveled their small city in Northwest Georgia.

I believe people in Alabama and in Georgia, will be getting prepared for the next round of bad weather that is headed our way. This trend is suppose to last for a couple of months, so we are a long ways away, from being safe from the 2011 storms. A smart family will invest in these new weather alert systems; which are good about detecting bad weather or alerting us to tornadoes in the nearby area. The best way to stay safe during bad weather, is to prepare for these strong winds, damaging hail, and the twisters that drop out of the clouds above. Getting a weather system for your home is a start, but remember some more key tips.

If you hear thunder, then you are close enough to get struck by lightning. Thunder is Mother Nature’s first alert system to us, to take cover, find shelter and get everyone in from outside. Thunder in the area, means lightning is close. If you have thunder and lighting, then other bad things are certainly a possibility. The best thing is to over prepare, stay over safe, and then we can laugh about it later. If we don’t, there won’t be anyone laughing after the bad weather has passed. Ringgold residents was lucky, but towns in Alabama wasn’t, if you consider the death tolls in some of the Alabama towns struck by these tornadoes in the South USA.

Americans are strong. People in the South are a bit stronger and they’re a breed of their own. We can handle tough things down here, but we have to know they are coming. So try to look online and consider buying a weather alarm or a home weather alarm, so you and your family will know when the next twister is heading your way.

We are in a whole new world now with climate change or global warming as some people still call it. What ever its name is, we know our bad weather is worse than it was in years past. Find a secure location now, while the weather is good and then you will know where to go, for your escape plan, when the next tornado warning is forecasted for your local city or hometown.

We are in a tough weather pattern right now and things are going to get worse, before they get better in 2011. The 2011 tornado season is far from being over. So please understand this and keep an eye to the sky and tune-in to the local weather channel or your local weatherman on television. This is only the calm before the rest of our storms, for the 2011 tornado and thunder storm season.
