Creating a Simple Life

Simple things are worth blogging about

Archive for April, 2010

Do you know who Marvin Williams is? The basketball player from the NC Tar Heels and now with the Atlanta Hawks? He played his high school ball around the Seattle, Washington area, so figured he was pretty popular in the American Northwest too. Well, he was doing an interview recently and it was one of those 30 minute interviews; where you get to know more info than needed. He talked about basketball and how the sport of basketball has took him to all the 4 corners on Earth and all of the great places, opportunities, and people he has met, due to basketball and it’s just basketball that brought him all of this wonderful stuff. He was very appreciate of these things and he gave all the credit to basketball. Not his hard work, natural talent, 6 foot 8 inch height, or these other things athletes tend to give credit for or they will praise a coach or parent for their success. Not Marvin, he pretty much gave basketball all the credit. I liked his answer because it was unique. I didn’t agree with him, because I think he owes some of the thanks to the things he did, like keep good grades and all the school work, the physical effort he gave in the gym, and things like that. He’s also been blessed due to the things he didn’t do, like hang out with the wrong crowds, drinking & driving, drugs, and other bad decisions he could have easily made.

I now know what Marvin means about basketball and it is the sport that deserves all the credit. No matter where he is at or what he might be doing, more than likely you can point to basketball for him anytime. I haven’t been as successful as Marvin in basketball, but have got to taste success with my blogs. I owe so much to my blogs and they have taken me to places I would have never got to without them. I believe I have what it takes to take the next steps up and move my blogs into a higher class of blogs. I have been above average for a couple of years now. I believe I am slowly forming a traffic empire online. My empire will be able to turn programs into goldmines and build huge downlines for any new programs I decide to join and promote all out. No matter how big my empire gets online or how much money I make, it will still fall back to my blogs and they’re the thing that separates me from most of the other online marketers today.

I think it’s amazing that I am about a dozen years older than Marvin Williams from the NBA, but was able to learn something from this young feller. He may not even realize what he knows or how valuable his way of looking at things really is. He was just speaking honestly and it came out in a natural conversation. I just didn’t know how to apply his respect for basketball into my world of online marketing. I think I can see the road map now and won’t truly know until I get there. What basketball means to Atlanta’s Marvin Williams is what my blogs mean to me. That might not sound like much, but it’s sometimes the small things that make the biggest differences and I can see how this is one of those times.

  • How Do I Know If Its Asbestos?

Did you come online today to learn more about asbestos, how to recognize it, and want to see if any is in your home now? Well you’re not alone and I came to my computer on April 10th with the same intentions too. I found it a little difficult and time consuming to work through different search terms for asbestos in the big 3 search engines. A lot of the information that was coming up, was dealing with attorneys for mesothelioma or a health care provider or system for someone that has meso from being exposed to asbestos products. I found that quiet shocking; since mesothelioma is a terminal illness and people don’t survive or beat meso. We have more information online for dealing with the awful after effects of mesothelioma; than we do for asbestos awareness and prevention. If we could get more people aware of products and structures that are likely to contain asbestos, we can prevent and stop this form of cancer from spreading.

A professional crew of workers that are asbestos removers can look a little scary to the average home owner. It is a good idea for people that work in the construction industry or have a job with an asbestos removal company; that they should take precautions and limit their exposure to asbestos. I found out at: http://www.asbestosregisters.co.uk/ that being exposed to asbestos does not result in cancer. It’s actually the small fibers that break down and often these very tiny asbestos fibers get inhaled. The people that breathe in too much or get exposed to these small fibers while they’re breaking down, will be in the high risk category. Just in the UK alone, they’re expecting 2,000 deaths from just the people at work inhaling these tiny fibers. How many others living in the United Kingdom will contract mesothelioma through other contacts or from their own home? What about the countries that are not as developed, prepared, or versed in asbestos dangers as the UK currently is?

Over at: http://www.asbestosregisters.co.uk/, I was able to see a way to breakdown asbestos in 4 ways. You have to start somewhere and I think these 4 classifications will answer or fit-in to most people’s concerns about asbestos.

*Analyze Materials You Feel Contain Asbestos

*Removing Asbestos Contaminated Materials When You Know They Are Present

*Take Asbestos Surveys To See What You Know and What You Didn’t Know

    *Asbestos Awareness Training For Everyone

This is only a starting point and guidelines for someone that can’t find any prevention or asbestos facts online. Any information that you do find and discover online. Please try to verify the information from a 2nd source or website. We are all going to have to learn this stuff together as we go forward and wait for better prevention and removal efforts to develop. The best advice I can give my readers, is to check out the forum over at: http://www.asbestosregisters.co.uk/ and ask your asbestos questions there. They have a guy that will answer your questions. If he can’t answer your specific question right away, he will go in search for the correct answers. His knowledge and expertise in this very frightening field, will give homeowners and workers more knowledge, so they can avoid any long term exposures that could result in death.

Now, going back to the title of my blog post: “How Do I Know If Its Asbestos?”. You don’t! Stay away from any material or building structures that you see as something that could contain asbestos. The good news is that being exposed to asbestos doesn’t result in mesothelioma. It’s being exposed to these tiny fibers that are breaking down, that will cause the health problems. No way for us concerned citizens to know which asbestos are safe and which asbestos are harmful. Just keep away and stay as far from this material as possible. If asbestos is in your way and keeping you from living a normal life, be sure to hire an asbestos removal company, so no one will get hurt in the process.

    Hot Weather Burns Fat

After being cramped up inside all winter long, we now can get out and enjoy the fresh air. The warmer weather makes it easy to lose that extra weight. You know the weight that wasn’t getting enough exercise, because the temperatures were too cold and you just kept getting bigger and bigger. Don’t be in any hurries to throw away any of your weight loss products, because if you don’t stay active, you will need their help. Especially the dieting products that help to curb your appetite at the dinner table. All of this hot weather coming our way for the next 6 months can be a big help, to those seeking to shed a few pounds. Its only going to work, if you get outside and be active for a few hours each day. Losing weight by being more active is the safest way in my opinion. However, it is always wise to check with your doctor first, for anyone that is planning a strenuous exercise routine. Mother Nature is here, it’s up to you overweight folks, if you want to take advantage of the beautiful weather and get rid of some of that excess fat.

  • Renae the Waitress

For those that are lucky enough to have RFD-TV on their satellite or cable channels; probably know who Renae the Waitress is and where she works. If you don’t have this station, you probably have no clue to who Renae is or the show she plays a part in. She is the waitress on Larry’s Country Diner that comes on each Thursday and the show re-airs on Saturday night. It’s a great show for Southern America and I don’t mean South America, but “Southern America“. The people that live in the South, listen to country music, and probably went to a church that had a preacher who would foam at the mouth from preaching so hard, would be the perfect candidates for watching Larrys Country Diner.

I wanted to do a special blog post about Renae the Waitress and I have a good reason why. Before I tell you that, let me just let you know how Renae fits into the show. I first thought she was Larry’s wife in the first couple of episodes I seen. The way these two would pick at each other, it seemed like a logical fit. However, what other relationships do we have in life, where picking on each other is a daily chore? If you have a brother or sister; then you probably know where I am going with this. I’m not 100% positive on this and did try to research it online with no luck, but I believe Larry is Renae’s brother. They grew up in Alabama (or at least Larry did) and their childhood home near the Mobile, Alabama area is probably like most other places in the South. You can identify with them on their thoughts and the sense of humour both of them carry around on the show. You may not see it, if you just watch one episode, but watch Larry’s Country Diner a few times and you will see what I mean.

Larry, Renae, & the Other Waitress

Most Larry’s Country Diner episodes start in the same format. Larry will gather up some visual and audio resources to help shine light on a specific year. He will mention songs that came out that year, what a house cost, the price for a gallon of gas, inventions, and things like that, for just 1 historical year in the 1900′s. After he completes this starting segment, he is suppose to read the “Promise“, but usually will forget to read it. This is where we get to see Renae step in and remind Larry to read the Promise. Their promise is a quote from the Bible and you may know this better by another name like daily devotion, daily thought, words of wisdom, or something similar to that. Larry’s family back in Alabama did this each day and Larry has kept this family tradition alive, by reading a promise at the beginning of each of his TV shows.

So why the special blog post for Renae the Waitress?

This blog post was created, because the same way Renae steps in to remind Larry about the Promise, she stopped in to help answer some questions here (Creating a Simple Life Blog); which I have asked and some of the questions my readers have asked too. I was very thrilled and honored, to have Renae the Waitress, take time out to read my blog posts and leave 2 great replies that are full of information. She gave out some information about the tapings and how they work for people that would like to attend a live recording of Larry’s Country Diner. I had one reader (Jim) that pointed out the squeaky door behind the bar and she mentions it in her reply. If you would like to read exactly what Renae had to say, you can go to these two links on my blog here:

Renae the Waitress Replies to My Blog Post on Larry’s Country Diner (Reply #10 is Renae)

Renae From Larry’s Country Diner Replies to My Blog Post on Nadine (Reply #3 is Renae)

I am the one she calls “Blogger Chris“ and this proves she did read my posts. At the bottom of my first blog post, I was addressing Larry directly. I told Larry to just mention Blogger Chris on an episode and I would do a lot more blogging for him. Now that I understand how the tapings work, I realize this request isn’t something that can happen quickly. Maybe he can do a shout out in season 3, but that might not be as good as the invitation Renae gave me in one of her replies. I certainly want to learn more about how the shows get made and hopefully attend a taping in one of the future seasons.

Now Renae, you know us Americans are spoiled and no matter what we get, we always want more and more. I would really like to make that drive from my North Georgia Home to see you guys in Tennessee. As much as I would like that, there is something I would love 10 times better and that would be to attend a specific taping with a specific guest star. I know, I know, I am probably pushing my luck and I admit I am taking advantage of your generosity, but I do have a charitable act behind my greed. I had a close friend that died in his sleep from a heart condition that was unknown and his death was very unexpected back in 2002. He was a few years older than me and he was 34 years old at the time of his passing. Seems strange now that I am 3 years older than the age he was at; when he took his last breath on Earth.

What I would really, really love is to take his mama with me and I have a feeling my mama would want to make this trip too, and see a certain performer. From all of the shows I have seen and reading up on the guests from season 1 and scheduled to appear in season 2, you have yet to have this country performer on. Considering some of the things I have seen and heard, I believe it’s only a matter of time, for this person to make his way to Larry’s Country Diner. How possible or what chances do I have of going for a 1 day trip and seeing a specific performer?

You may can put 2 and 2 together and know the performer I would like to see. My mama has also blurted out another country music performer she would like to see. I guess the more names we give, the better our chances get? I’m not sure we could stay in town more than 1 day; due to my friend’s mom needing oxygen several times a day and the work schedule my mama has for her job at our local funeral home. Blogger Chris can easily make plans and time for a trip, any time and any length. So please let me know how many people I could bring with me or is the invitation for just 1 person? Oh yeah, I never did tell you who I wanted to come see as the special guest on Larry’s Country Diner. The country music performer I would most like to see is CLICK HERE and this will reveal my choice and also the person my dear old mother would like to see at the Diner too.

Best Waitress Ever (at least she helps me and Larry)

A really BIG thanks to the Waitress from Larry’s Country Diner; which we know as Renae. I remember Renae cracking a joke one time, about the Nadine bumper stickers causing a traffic jam, because everyone was honking that loved Nadine. I now see that the bumper stickers do exist. I really appreciate the feedback and feel free to stop by here anytime. Here at my blog called Creating a Simple Life, where we have the keyboard typing non-stop here and we just don’t care!

  • As the economy continues to bounce around saving money is more important than ever.  We have a few ways to cut living expenses which are quite simple to follow.  You may be doing some of these suggestions already or you might not have thought of them.  Either way there is something for everyone to take from this article to help ease your life and bank account.
1.Eating out: this is the first place many individuals and families can save money.  Even $4 at McDonalds or other fast food restaurants will add up over time.  You can possibly save $50 to $1000 a month on eating out depending on how much you eat out.  If you eat out more than you eat at home then consider switching to buying groceries on the days you will eat at home.  This can save you from wasting your groceries.  Most often we tend to get in a cycle of eating out and throwing out the food we have bought from the grocery store.  Choose one or the other.  You will find savings.
2.Do all of your errands at once: Take one day off or evening to complete all of your errands.  By running around one day or night a week you can cut down on gas and therefore save a little monthly income on gas.
3.When you buy groceries plan out your weekly meals and buy only what you need.  If you need fresh vegetables or want fish consider buying them the day you will be eating them.  There is 99.9 percent of the time a grocery store on your way home you can stop at to pick up these fresh foods.
4.Cut down on entertainment: instead of going out each night, every week cut back.  Go out three times a week instead of seven or choose an entertainment like a movie without the popcorn and drinks.  Venture out to go bowling or miniature golfing instead of a theater show.  You do not have to cut all your entertainment out, but choose something for the week or the month, and then stay at home to save money with a movie in from a Redbox or Netflix.
5.Before you buy gas go online to AAA or other websites that offer local gas prices.  This gives you a chance to compare the best prices and distance to each calculating where the best savings can be found.  You can do this with grocery store flyers as well.
6.For utilities cut them down to the bare bones.  Wear more clothes instead of running the heater up to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, take showers rather than baths, and use candles.  Do you really need to use your lights?  If you are reading or cooking probably, but having candles around the house while watching TV is both romantic and uses less energy.
These are a few of the tips we can offer you.  The amount you save depends on what you want to cut or alter in your life to save that money!

    Are Banks Even an Option?

You can search online for new and collateral loans.

You will want to make sure your  credit reports are up to date and there is no strange creditors showing up.

  • Kobe Bryant might be the best basketball player in the world and his Los Angeles Lakers might be the Championship Team, but they got beat and beat bad on the court in Atlanta Wednesday night. The Atlanta Hawksdon’t play championship-style basketball, but they beat the championship team. While the Lakers star put up 28 points and had a descent game; the Atlanta Hawks best player Jamal Crawford only manage to score 14 points. The Hawks superstar wasn’t needed as much with the help Maurice Evans gave off the bench with his impressive 18 points and went 7 for 9 from the field. Another big reason the Hawks did so good against the Lakers; is the fact that Josh Smith was allowed to play and he led the team in minutes played with 38. He should always lead the team in minutes, but poor coaching and not recognizing who the most productive players are, is the reason the Atlanta Hawks have never been able to reach their full potential.

The L.A. ballers just don’t have the talent to match up with the ballers from the ATL. It was clear on Wednesday night and the Hawks could have ended this game much sooner, if Coach Mike Woodson would realize that Joe Johnson is just an average player. His total numbers for each game would suggest above the NBA average, but once you break down the minutes played, shots taken, and the total game time minutes he has the ball in his hands; half of the guys in the League could put up his numbers. Poor decision making, the inability to make good, accurate passes to teammates, and pouting on the court is just few things that catches your eyes when you see number 2 trying to be like an All Star in the NBA. He has sold the right man his average ball skills and it’s Mike Woodson that allows the Joe Horror Show to take place nightly in a Hawks uniform. Luckily Joe wants to test the free agent waters and this will be a blessing in disguise for the Hawks faithful. Also, the contract is up for Woody and there is no reason to keep him around. He makes preplanned coaching decisions nightly and no twist, gut feelings, or experiments take place on Woody’s court. To have a NBA head coaching job, you must be bringing something to the table that is unique and different. The Hawks young players have never got that and it’s the reason the Hawks have failed to make an appearance in the Eastern Conference or NBA Championship Series.

Now the media don’t know who the Hawks are or how they got here. They never seen a Hawks game until recentlly and they still no very little about our team. They really believe that Joe Johnson is the star player and they give credit to the Hawks organization for not firing Mike Woodson and letting him stick around to finish the job. Each time a national sportscaster goes in this direction, you know they haven’t watched the Hawks play and they are just giving opinions on the box scores and highlights they see. Atlanta is by no means greatful that Woodson has been left on as head coach. His coaching career was over 2 years ago and his presence is still causing the Hawks to play a poor brand of basketball.

Mike Woodson does nothing to motivate his team. He’s made comments in the past that games are won in the 4th quarter. This is exactly how the team plays. They go through the motions for 3 quarters and try to turn it on in the 4th quarter and it doesn’t work like that on some nights. He is failing to teach these guys how to get better each quarter and the wins and losses don’t matter. He takes each game like a 1 game war. Only thing that matters in his book is what the scoreboard says. This isn’t how it works. You have to forget about the score and who wins and loses individual games. You teach your guys a system and you go through the process of perfecting it. The score and the wins will come naturally once you get this mindset in place. The Hawks get down in games and you see the players on the court pouting. Why? You see the head coach on the sidelines pouting with them. Why? This isn’t good and it’s the reason the Hawks continue to fail in the NBA. If the guys on the court are pouting, upset, and worried they might lose a certain game. The head coach needs to step in and motivate them. Stop with the menacing stares each time a guy makes a mistake. Yelling at your guys for every mistake is not the way you conduct this train. If they mess up, they are the first ones to know it. What’s done is done! No, this isn’t how Woody works. He has to add salt to the wound by making a player that’s messed up and feels bad, feel even worse after the coach yells at him or sits him on the bench. You got to be a motivator in this league and let guys know when they mess up, it’s perfectly fine, because we have a system that will prevail at the end and no 1 or 2 plays in a game is going to cost us. In order to accomplish this, you have to play 4 quarters of basketball and not just 1. You get leads and continue to build on them, so 1 or 2 mistakes in the 4th quarter doesn’t cost you the game.

Many fans in Atlanta are just tired of losing and glad the Hawks are winning some games now and getting a few games to play in the playoffs. This is as far as this team can go with the current coaching that is taking place in Atlanta. They don’t have the championship mindset to work on getting the lead, work on extending the lead, and then work on creating a blowout situation where your starters are not even needed in the 4th quarters of games. We don’t play like that in Philips Arena. We play for 3 quarters to not get beat. Then try to get a 8 to 12 point lead. At the 5 minute mark in the 4th quarter and the Hawks have a 10 point lead. They begin to slow the offense down and hold the ball; while taking poor shots as the shot clock winds down. It never fails and this strategy causes teams to be back within 2 points at the 2 or 3 minute mark of the game. Even once it becomes a game again, the Hawks are use to running that slow offense and still won’t get out of it. They just let precious time tick away as their lead continues to slip away. This isn’t how you should play. Maybe this style gives you a chance to win that game, that night. But you got to play for the big picture and use that time to run your offense and continue to build on your lead. Never stop playing and go to that offense that has only one purpose and it’s to take time off the clock and shorten the game. No strategy really needed for regular season games and especially when you know your team is talented enough to make the playoffs blindfolded.

Good bye to Mike Woodson and Joe Johnson. Let’s get Josh Childress back in Philips Arena helping his partner in crime Josh Smith as they showcase these athletes in an all out running up and down the court game. We have never seen the Hawks run and develop the part of their game they was naturally made for. If we did, this team could really embarrass some other NBA teams.

  • It’s hard to beat a day that you wake up early in the morning and go fishing. After you catch a few fish for you and the family, you go back home to clean them and get them ready for cooking. I don’t have any special fish recipes, just a healthy dosing of all purpose flour and sprinkling a little salt on them, is all I do. Get the stove on medium heat and let a little lard melt in the pan. After that, you just throw the fish in and let it cook for about 10 minutes on each side. Fix a little a bread to go with it and you have a great meal that you caught and ate in the same day.

Now if you wake up and go fishing and they’re not biting, you will have to change the plan. This is what we call a back up plan in the fishing and eating business and we have to use it, when the first plan doesn’t work. Chances are your stomach is set on fish and anything else you eat, just won’t be as good. We can go to the supermarket to pick up some fresh frozen fish, but normally this fish isn’t that great. The best back up plan would be to get a shower and clean up from the fishing trip. Put on your Sunday clothes and get all dressed up to go out for a nice, expensive seafood dinner. You can take the kids to a babysitter, if they get in the way. The law does require us men to feed the wife, so tell her to throw on a few nice clothes and some womens perfume, for this special dinner that is just for her. After you place your order and your fish arrives at the table. You’re just one bite away from fishing and eating fish in the same day!
