The Best Websites To Waste Time

With the fallen economy, I recently got laid off. That’s not a bad thing though, I was able to start my own business and even started using hughes satallite internet satalite internet while working at home. I’ve been able to waste a lot of time online these days, because my business is based online, and it has been a lot more fun than my old job.

Finding good overall web content is somewhat irksome at times, but I’ve managed to narrow things down to some selected websites. I’m a big fan of skateboarding so a daily ritual is to check out theberrics.com The Berrics is a skateboard park in Los Angeles that is owned by Erik Koston and Steve Berra, two of the top names of skateboarding. The park uploads professionally edited skateboarding footage on a daily basis. They do a variety of things from contests to road trips, and provide visitors with a great daily experience. I used to have a hard time with the site, but since I started using Hughes internet service hughes internet service, I’ve been able to watch the videos relatively easy, on a daily basis.

Another great website I visit is boingboing.net, which is a grab bag of cool links and articles. The website covers a variety of news and geek topics that is not seen often by other sites. It’s hard to explain what it is that attracts me to that website, it’s just a cornucopia of cool. Lastly, I visit wwe.com daily. I love professional wrestling, and check in with the biggest wrestling promotion on the planet, just in case I miss something. Hughesnet hughes net really helps me stay connected and have fun online all day long.

  • Buy.com Sale on Boomboxes

Bringing the tunes to the beach doesn’t have to be stressful. It can be, if you bring a nice radio or boom-box with you. A sale currently underway at Buy.com has cheap radios that would be perfect for a weekend trip to the beach. All beaches have dirt or sand that can collect up in electronics and make them wear down a lot quicker. This won’t be a big deal for those that pick up a cheap boom box to take to the beach. This boombox offers a radio or cassette player for people traveling to the beach to use for their musical enjoyment.

You probably won’t have the luxury of using electricity to play your radio at the beach. Pick up 4 “D” size batteries to install into this cheap Coby portable radio, so no electrical outlets or cords are needed to get your tunes. Leave the headphones and iPod at home, so you can protect them from the sandy beaches. This radio offers a simple way to turn down the music for your own personal listening pleasures. Or you can crank it up for others to hear; while you jam at the beach.

All trips to the beach should be stress free. Don’t bring any items you will have to worry about losing, damaging, or getting stolen at the beach. This boombox is perfect for a beach trip you plan to catch some sun rays, go swimming, or to listen to at the beach volleyball game. You won’t be out of much money if the sand gets inside and causes any damage. It’s unlikely this will happen, because radio and cassette players like these are tough and they’re not easily damaged. I believe this cheap boombox would last all summer long and probably be ready for the spring trips you take next year to the the beach. Going to the beach this summer, won’t be that fun if you can’t bring your own music. Consider an investment that offers hours and hours of beach fun and at a price you earn in just a couple of hours at your job.

Have fun this summer and be safe with the beach music if you bring the kids along with you. No adults should be wearing earphones at the beach, if they’re responsible for young children. A simple-to-use and cheap boombox like this, offers parents the ability to hear their music; while being able to hear the kids play too.

  • Capote: Book or Movie?

One day back in the 1950′s a couple of killers drove to a home in Kansas, where they believed a safe was located in the house. One killer got this knowledge from another prisoner he was serving time with in prison. This information would be used by this convicted man to travel to Kansas; when he was released from his criminal punishment sentence. Him and another man made the long drive to Kansas; where they broke into this home late one night. They would tear the house up looking for a safe that wasn’t in the home. This probably outraged the men more and before it was all over, they would murder an entire family. This was shocking news back in the 1950′s; just like it would be today in 2010.

A man named Capote made the trip to middle America, that was centered right in the heartland of our country. He wanted to hear the killers side of the story and understand why these men would do such an evil thing. This man Capote would have a book and movie done about the information he learned while investigating this true life story. I have seen the movie Capote, but never read the book. For those that have read this true-life book, I was wondering what you thought about the book. Do you think the book is better than the movie? I know in most cases, the book is better than the movie. A book allows us to go inside the minds of the characters and I’m sure a lot more can be told about Capote’s thoughts in the book; compared to the movie. I would rate the movie Capote as a very average movie. The fact it’s a true story, makes me like this movie much better than if it was a fictional work of art.

Have you read the book Capote? How would you rate it on a scale between 1 thru 10? I give the movie Capote an 8 on my scale between 1-10. Do you rank the book this high? This is a very sad story, to see an innocent family lose their lives on this horrible night back in the 1950′s era. Especially when we learn that it was a mistake in information that got passed from one person to another. A well-known and well-liked family was all murdered by a couple of men that had no business destroying the lives of this Kansas family. If it wasn’t for a man named Capote, we may have long forgot about this tragedy. So I do think some credit is owed to him, for future generations to remember this innocent family from Kansas that didn’t deserve the faith that was handed to them, more than a half of century ago.

  • It was the Juniper bonsai tree that was featured in a big Hollywood movie most of us have seen. There are many other types of bonsai trees that exist in the garden area in stores or can be found online for sale. I didn’t know what a bonsai tree was, before I seen this one certain movie that featured this beautiful and unique tree. Do you know the movie I am talking about? You may remember how to paint a fence, wash a car, or catch a fly with chop sticks better than the bonsai tree part of this movie. Now do you know the famous movie that featured a bonsai tree? If you’re thinking about standing on one leg and doing a “crane kick“; then I believe you know which movie has the bonsai tree. It was a movie our school librarian showed to us in the 6th grade and the first time I ever seen it. So it’s not a recent movie, but still comes on TV a lot. The bonsai tree movie was the Karate Kid and it’s still one of my top 10 movies of all time. Anytime I see or hear about a bonsai tree, I quickly think about actor Pat Morita teaching Ralph Macchio, the art of clipping and shaping a bonsai tree. A lot of the bonsai trees don’t look like the one in the movie, but they’re still a part of the bonsai tree family.

    ProFlowers - Juniper Bonsai Tree

If you have any trouble locating a bonsai tree in the garden department at a hardware, home supply, or other retail store that sells trees, flowers, and other plants. You can look online and find a large variety of bonsai trees at ProFlowers.com. This is where I will probably go; when I decide to get my own bonsai tree. I really like the Indian Hawthorn Bonsai tree. Be sure to check this one out, before you buy any other kinds of bonsai trees. I first want to own a Juniper bonsai tree (like the one in the Karate Kid movie), but the Indian Hawthorn Bonsai would be my 2nd choice. Overall, all of these bonsai trees are beautiful and you can’t go wrong with any selection.

  • Lottery: Your Way to Play

    The Big Lottery Jackpots

The first thing most of us think about, when the term “lottery” comes up, is winning one of the big jackpots worth millions of dollars. Even though your odds are greater to get struck by lightning twice on the same day is higher, that still doesn’t stop us from playing. And why should it? When we can spend 1 buck to choose a few numbers and have the opportunity to win a lump sum payment that could set us for life. No other realistic ways to achieve this, unless you plan to sue a big company for money, invent a new product, or have a long lost relative to leave you a chunk of money in their will. The lottery is the easy way to get rich quick. Even though the odds say you and I will never win, we still watch people every week get their lives changed by a state or multi-state lottery. It’s having that chance that keeps us filling out those numbers on our lottery forms to turn in to a cashier at a convenience store.

What methods do you use; when it comes to selecting your numbers? Some will choose family members ages or birthdays. Most of us have a lucky number we will play a lot too. My favorite number has always been the number 21 and I have played this number many times on various lotteries. My state offers two big lotteries; then some smaller ones that offer a much better chance of winning. The pick 3 lottery is not really going to make you rich, but offers the best chance to score a week’s pay. I like our Fantasy 5 in Georgia. This lottery contest cuts out some of the numbers you have to choose from and you only have to get 5 right; instead of 6 with a special numbered ball too. After someone wins the Fantasy 5, it starts again at $50,000. While that prize may not be too attractive, it does grow each night, if no one wins. I like to play this anytime I see it over $150,000 or more and it gets that high a lot. If we would focus on the 100K prizes; instead of the ones that offer us millions, we have a much better shot of the lottery making a real difference in our life. I guess the lottery affects everyone’s life, but very few experience the positive sides. The rest of us get affected with the money we don’t have in our pockets no more.

I find it a little funny that there are lottery strategies. It’s just as easy for the numbers 1,2,3,4,5, and 6 to come out; as the random numbers you pick. I have found that hot numbers do exist. Playing the hot numbers each week has worked a little for me. I use to play cold numbers and figured they had a better chance of coming out. In reality, it’s been the hot numbers I have won more money from; than the cold numbers have paid me. Even this little lottery strategy of mine is pointless, but maybe the hot numbers have less weight on their ball weight and it causes them to pop-up more than the cold numbers. The hot numbers only last for a week to 10 days. After that, it seems like the balls get cleaned or changed out and a different group of numbers make up the hot numbers. That’s my only tip I can offer to lottery players. Do you have any lottery tips to share? What’s the most you have ever won? How much money do you spend each week on the lottery? I have won $500 a few times and that’s been my biggest win. This came from the scratch off tickets. I did hit 4 out of the 5 numbers one time. I won about $60 from this and it normally pays a little over $100 in the Georgia Fantasy 5 lottery. Please share your lottery views and any lottery tricks you have for winning more often than the average lottery player.

  • All Women Don’t Need Diets

It seems all girls and women start at an early age thinking they need to go on a diet. I guess it starts with the peer pressures at school for most of these young ladies. They see someone else they view as having the perfect body, so they try to shape their self into a shape that isn’t natural for them. Not all women need to go on diets and more women should be happy with the way they are.

I have seen women with perfect bodies get upset, because they abandoned a diet plan or ate a big meal recently. You only live once ladies and worrying about your overall shape is really not that important in the grand scheme of things.

Now there are some women who are severely overweight and do need to take action. If your extra weight is forcing you to make daily decisions; then it’s not a healthy situation. The really big ladies should look around for diet pills for women or find effective diet plans to start trying. The number of women that really need to go on a diet is a lot lower than the number of women that actually start a diet each day. There is nothing wrong with being healthy and carrying around a little extra weight. Women who are carrying around 50 or more pounds, should really start eating more sensible, exercising, and searching for a diet pill that works. All the other women just need to be happy with who they are and realize that all women don’t have to be on a diet in 2010.

  • Oil Drifting Toward U.S. Shore

The deadly explosion on the Gulf oil rig is causing the waters to get polluted. The oil spills from the rig can now be seen clearly from the air or from the boats in the area. These oil spills are floating on top of the water in the Gulf of Mexico. For the last several days now, the oil has continued a direct drifting pattern that could lead it to the shore line in Louisiana in the coming days. A lot of clean up crews are trying to prevent this oil from reaching the U.S. coastline, but it’s just a massive spill, there is bound to be patches that do make their way to the United States beaches.

I don’t think consumers will have to wait long to see a spike in oil prices at the pumps. Gas prices were already steadily risen and now this disaster in the Gulf should speed these prices up. I wouldn’t be surprised to see gas at $3.35 a gallon by May 12th. The world has very little oil left, so any that gets wasted in any part of the world, will surely see a chain reaction with higher gas prices.

  • The Story of Harry Potter

    Joanne Kathleen

Many people may not know the name Joanne Kathleen, but they do know this person. She is better known as J.K. Rowling and her claim to fame is the story about a boy wizard and his adventures. It was many years ago, when a young Joanne Kathleen was riding a train from Manchester, England to the capital city in London. It was on this train that sparked an idea to create a story about a boy named Harry. This wouldn’t be a normal boy, but a boy who was a wizard. Once the train ride was over, it wasn’t like Ms. Kathleen ran to a notebook and this famous story came to life. The creation would take many years later to come about, since Joanne was having to work as a teacher and didn’t have a lot of free time to write about this little boy named Harry.

Eventually things would work out and the story of Harry Potter was created. Even after the story of Harry Potter had been written, there was still publishers in England that was turning down this bright, young author. Finally a publishing company in the U.K. did buy the rights to Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling in 1997. A year later in 1998, the story would come to America and it didn’t take long for Joanne Kathleen to have enough money, so she could quit teaching and begin a series of books featuring the boy wizard named Harry Potter.

You can look online today and see some book website or a website selling movies that will have a sale on Harry Potter books, movies, and other related merchandise. All over the world, parents have been taking their kids to watch Harry Potter at the movies or buying each new book that gets written by J.K. Rowling (author of Harry Potter books).

For the kids which may still be too young to read these great books, parents do have the option of getting Harry Potter movies or the CD’s that feature the boy wizard. I think getting Harry Potter on Audio CD is the best way for these kids to learn about Harry Potter. One of these audio CD’s is a great thing to put on at bedtime each night. Your children can drift off to sleep; while listening to Harry and his friend’s adventures in this great series that is loved by kids world wide. Leaving the TV on all night produces too much light for sleeping and limits the imagination Harry Potter can create. Listening to Harry Potter on an audio compact disc, will force your child to create these adventures in their mind and develop those thinking skills early. Keep this in mind, before you buy the next Harry Potter movie.

  • Fear the Deer

Game 3 in Milwaukee was much different from the first 2 playoff games between the Hawks and Bucks. The first two games in this series was handled easily by the Atlanta Hawks. They were beginning to look like an NBA team ready to compete for the Eastern Conference championship. That was until they got on the plane and travel to Wisconsin to play a little B-Ball on the court up there.

It was a slaughter right from the start. The basketball team from the ATL had no chance in this bloodbath they were swimming in. The Bucks hit them hard and hit them often as they ran up the score. The swagger was all around, but no player on the court demonstrated that swagger better than Milwaukee’s rookie point guard Brandon Jennings. He knew right from the start how this game was going to end in Milwaukee Saturday night. Jennings started knocking down a few long jump shots from 3 land. After each shot made, he would get that swagger on. My first thoughts on the Brandon Jennings swagger was that he would regret showing up the Hawks team like that. I was expecting any minute for the Hawks to get it going, but that never was the case. The team from Atlanta coached by Mike Woodson never got his team fired up to play. Woodson simply said his guys didn’t come out with the energy needed to win and they wasn’t physical enough to match up with the intensity the Bucks came out of the locker room with. I find his comments after the game very amusing. If this was the case Mr. Woodson, why did you play your starters the majority of the game? If the guys on the floor are not bringing it (like they should), simply sit them on the bench and call in the next guy. Your lack of trust in your bench guys, is what keeps your team from moving up in the NBA ranks. The starting 5 for Atlanta knows they will be on the floor and they have no pressures to perform. Not letting the bench push the starters is what creates these huge blowouts in the playoffs; which the Hawks are now becoming known for. If they can win by double digits in the playoffs, they will give up and let their opponents win.

Joe Johnson and Mike Woodson both said comments after the game they will have to look at the tape to see what happened. This is the type of comments you would expect from losers and Joe Johnson and Mike Woodson might just be the biggest two losers in Atlanta basketball these days. I don’t have to look at the tape to see that the execution and game plan didn’t work. All Woodson has to do is get guys up off the bench to come in and let these starters ride the bench some. Coach Mike Woodson fails to see the logic in letting other team members play in the game; while the starters learn lessons and learn that each minute they are on the floor is a privlege and not a right. Play your best 5 and the wins will come! You don’t know who your best 5 are each night, until you get them in the game and let them run up and down the court a few times. The Hawks think they will just bounce back from this pounding. They fully expect to win all of their home games against the Bucks. This attitude is why the Hawks can’t perform up to their basketball abilities. It is time to panic and don’t tell me otherwise. Fear the deer is in full effect and the Hawks may not win another game against Milwaukee with the lack of direction and leadership these guys bring into a NBA playoff atmosphere.

  • What’s In a Taco?

You can never go wrong when you serve up tacos for dinner. This is one of my favorite foods and I love making tacos. I like eating them even better. There is a few basic ingredients that all tacos should have. A good tasting ground beef that is lightly seasoned is where I like to start first. The taco packets you buy at the grocery store contain too much seasoning for my taste buds. I will usually put in half of the pack of taco seasoning and that gets me started with a good tasting meat source for my taco. Then I will toast the shell about 5 to 7 minutes in the oven around 300 to 350 degrees. I will use the basic toppings to put on my taco. I like a little lettuce, shredded cheese (will usually go with the pack already grated and is a mixture of different cheeses), and some fresh tomatoes. These are the 3 things every taco should have. Some people will choose to add a piece of lime or some steamed rice on their tacos. Or they will pick other toppings that are not on your common taco. Just give me the 3 basics like cheese, lettuce, and tomato and this makes a perfect taco for me. What unusual toppings have you seen or used on a taco before?
