Only 4 more countries remain in the ice hockey tournament that is currently underway in Vancouver. The young sensation Sidney Crosby led his team from Canada to a blowout against the men’s team from Russia. The score was 4 to 1 in Canada’s favor after the first period was over. I don’t think the team from Russia knew what hit them; when they took to the ice on Wednesday. Canada has a loaded roster and they finally came out of their shell and showed what they was capable of doing. The final score was 7 to 3 and this win puts Canada one game away from the gold medal game. Russia’s talented team that was made up of players like Alexander Ovechikin and Ilya Kovalchuk will have to pack their bags now as their 2010 Olympic Dreams are now over with in Vancouver.

Russia wasn’t the only team that suffered a devastating defeat on Wednesday. The team from Sweden came in as one of the best teams in the tournament and they got beat by the men’s team from Slovakia.

This was a close game all the way through. It seemed Slovakia took control when they scored their 4th goal of the game and took a 4 to 2 lead in the 4th period. Sweden wasn’t going to be that easy to beat as they quickly came back and added their 3rd goal of the game within 1 minute of the Slovakian 4th period goal. There was still plenty of time left for Sweden to tie this one up, but Slovakia managed to hold on for the rest of the game. The last minute of this game was played in the Slovakia’s end of the defensive ice as Sweden sent everything they had. The extra skater for Sweden got a lot of ice time; when Sweden pulled their goalie for the extra skater. A lot of good opportunities were there, but Sweden couldn’t manage to get the puck pass the Slovakian goaltender.

Slovakia’s win over Sweden is good news for Canada. They now get to play a team that doesn’t have the same talent level as the men’s team from Sweden. The match up between Canada and Slovakia will take place Friday night in Vancouver. Expect a big Canadian crowd for this event and the home ice advantage is going to be tough for the team from Slovakia to handle. No one gave Slovakia much of a chance to beat Sweden, so they might be happy as the underdogs, when they face the talented Canadian team Friday night.

Before Canada and Slovakia face off on Friday night, the other half of the bracket will play in the afternoon game. This should be a very close game as Finland and the United States square off.

The men’s USA team wasn’t given much of a chance to beat Canada on Sunday night and now hockey experts are wondering if anyone can beat the U.S. team. The strength of the USA team is in their defense. It all starts with the play of goaltender Ryan Miller. He has played very well in the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. No team is going to have an easy time scoring goals against the Americans. The only team left in the Vancouver Olympics that uses defense to win games is the American team. Their focus on defense has got them in position to win a medal in Vancouver. If the US can beat Finland on Friday afternoon, they will be the first team to be placed in the Gold medal game. We won’t know who their opponent will be until we see who wins the match up between Slovakia and Canada.

Does Finland have a chance to beat the U.S. ice hockey team? Yes, Finland comes in with a very strong team of NHL players and seeing them left as one of the 4 teams remaining is not shocking at all. A lot of people saw the team from Finland as one of the final teams to be playing in Vancouver. Finland is now only 1 win away from the gold medal game and expect their stars to lay it all out in Vancouver on Friday afternoon. Their main star is probably Teemu Selanne from the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (NHL Team). He’s fast and knows how to put the puck in the net. He will be a focus for the American defense to contend with and this should allow their other stars from the NHL to have a chance to shine in Vancouver. The game between the USA and Finland should be a close one as both teams will be fighting for a chance to play in the gold medal game in the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Those are the 4 teams left in the men’s ice hockey tournament in Vancouver. It has been fun watching all the teams compete in this year’s Winter Olympics. The hockey games are the thing I like best about the Winter Olympics. No other event compares to the talent level of these athletes and it’s a great team sport to watch in the Olympic events. It wasn’t always like this, but since the NHL guys get to participate now, it’s become the main attraction for the Olympic Games that gets played every 4 years. Congratulations to the 4 teams left in the ice hockey tournament and it should be fun seeing who wins the gold medal in Vancouver.

The hockey world in North America has a big game to watch on TV today. It will happen later today when the USA Olympic Hockey Team will face our neighbors to the north in a match up on the ice. Canada has one of the best teams on paper in the Olympic Games in Vancouver this year. It’s not likely the USA team will win today, but many Americans will be hoping for a miracle. The last one occured in 1980 when the USA Team beat the Russian team of professionals. We now have the professionals in our line up, but so does the Canadian team.

Is it possible for a team with people like Dany Heatley, Rick Nash, Sidney Crosby, Jerome Ignila, and other talented NHL players to beat a team of young Americans? On paper there is no hope for the USA team today. However, there is a reason why we play these games and it’s to see who is really better. I will be rooting hard for the USA team today, but it’s hard to imagine how they can keep up with  one of the most talented teams to ever skate on the ice before. I’m not sure an All Star team from the NHL could defeat this team from Canada. Many think the Russians have the best team in Vancouver, but from the names I see on each squad’s roster, I think Canada is clearly the better team. It should be interesting to see just how close the guys from the USA can keep this game with Canada today.

Most men would love to trade their fat content in their bodies now for muscle. Muscle is much more attractive than the fat we carry around each day. I have extra fat on me now that I would like to get rid of. The fat burners for men is a good place to start. A product that will help reduce our fat content in the body is a good idea. It appears President Obama is clearing the way for two new nuclear power plants to be built in the state of Georgia. No mention of where these power plants will be built in Georgia yet, but it’s one piece of real estate I would not want to be near. This will be the first time in more than 30 years that the U.S. Government has approved a new nuclear facility. Many people against these nuclear power plants say that there is no proper way to dispose of the radioactive material that these plants create.

New power plants fueled with nuclear energy will help the United States to be less dependant of foreign oils. Nuclear energy is a cleaner fuel and will produce less greenhouse emissions that some of the coal plants that are in operation now. These two nuclear power plants in Georgia will cost about 8 billion dollars to construct. At least the government is giving a loan for 8 billion dollars and most of this money will go to Georgia, to build both of these nuclear power plants. The President is calling this “homegrown energy” but at some point in the future someone will be calling this a ”homegrown problem”.

We do need to figure out ways to be less dependant on the Middle Eastern Nations that supply us with so much oil each year. We are in a collision course with a future energy crisis and it doesn’t look like we will avoid it. The oil in the ground can’t be pumped out forever and the Earth will run out of this precious oil in less than 25 years. We are using our oil reserves too fast now and everyone is going to see big changes in 20 years from now. I’m not convince that building nuclear power plants in Georgia is the best way to go, but these new power plants will create new jobs in Georgia. It seems a remote location in Alaska would be the idea place to build nuclear power plants, but Barrack Obama and his administration have their heart set on the state of Georgia. It should be interesting to see exactly where these two new power plants will be built in Georgia and I look forward to seeing the proposed areas.

A new mission has been completed up in space. The guys working on the Space Station have successfully added an observation deck to the space craft they rely on to keep them safe in outer space. I would love it once I got up there and I would like to see the Earth from outer space. I just don’t trust the travel methods that are in place now that gets these brave men and women to the International Space Station. It takes a powerful rocket system to get those astronauts in outer space and a lot of things have to go right in order for this to succeed. I’m not sure how long it took these guys to build their new observation deck, but sometimes the smallest things can take a lot of time when your working outside of the Earth’s atmosphere. If NASA gave you the chance to visit the space station one day, would you like to go? I don’t think we are too far away from seeing normal people make the long trip into outer space.

The last couple of weekends has been very interesting in the National Football League. The 2009 NFL season is now complete and there are no more NFL games to be played. A very old quarterback from Minnesota and the rookie quarterback from the New York Jets was just a couple of the stories that made football interesting. While some may have not seen Brett Favre as a underdog; there were a lot of people not giving the Saints a chance to beat Peyton Manning in Super Bowl 44. The football fans that like to bet on sports were picking the Colts to win in most parts of the country. I was just curious to know how many of you picked the Saints to win?

It’s been 4 years since Hurricane Katrina destroyed the city of New Orleans and even caused severe damage on the Superdome that the New Orleans Saints call home. No hurricane or NFL team for that matter was going to stop the Saints this year. Drew Brees played as well as any quarterback has ever played before. His great arm and a brilliant on-side kick to start the 3rd quarter was enough to upset the mighty Indianapolis Colts. Everyone that laid down their money on the Saints to win, probably got a nice little payout last weekend. I’m not sure exactly what the odds were, but you would have won more money with the Saints winning the Super Bowl; than you would have won, if the Colts had beaten the Saints. The Saints were the the underdogs in the Super Bowl, so the football fans that like to bet on football, can get higher returns on their bets, if they are brave enough to pick the underdog. I am very happy for the Saints team and I think everyone was glad to see the city of New Orleans get a little good news for a change.

This Sunday is Valentines Day and NASCAR starts their season. Their very first race each year is called the Daytona 500 and many consider this the Super Bowl of auto racing. So in a way, the state of Florida is hosting 2 Super Bowls in back to back Sundays.
