Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed watching the space shuttle take off. One day after Mothers Day the team from NASA decided to launch the space shuttle on its latest mission. Today we got to see the Space Shuttle Atlantis take off into outer space as its engines roared away from the Earth. It was a successful launch and it doesn’t appear anything went wrong. It’s always a very nervous time for the people watching at home and the NASA people too when the space shuttle leaves the Earth. There are so many things that can go wrong and its great to see it work to perfection like it did today. I’m not sure all the things this mission will be providing on this trip but each time we make a successful launch, it does benefit man in some way.

The entire space shuttle fleet is responsible for all the things that go on in outer space. We do so many things in our daily lives now as a result of the technology that’s been created high above the Earth’s atmosphere. The Atlantis did very well today and it’s another giant leap for the space program in America. Let’s hope all the crew on board make him home safely when the Atlantis returns from it’s space mission high above the clouds. A new security feature that is gaining fast acceptance is the keyless lock. This is the process of using a fingerprint to gain access to a secured location and no key is needed. This is a great way to really lock up the things we treasure the most and we can relax a lot better knowing we have the technology of the keyless lock system working on our side. Criminals like to break into easy locations and places they have easy access to. If you have an area that is being protected by this new security method of no keys; than it’s less likely that you will be chosen as the next crime target. Throw away the locks that require keys and start using a system that only needs your fingerprints to operate. I think a lot of people will be upgrading their security systems to the keyless lock way.

A 30 year old man in China was aboard a flight that was carrying about 150 other passengers on board. The Chinese Government is now trying to track down all the members that were aboard that same flight to China as the new flu enters the mainland of China. It’s a growing concern around the world for everyone and now the most populated country on the planet is reporting cases of the H1N1 flu strain or more commonly known as Swine Flu.

A 3rd man in the United States has passed away and his death is being blamed on the new flu virus. It seems this new strain is causing some lethal problems for some that do get infected. Most are recovering from the swine flu and it’s not much different than the seasonal flu or influenza that kills thousands every year. Most of the northern hemisphere is entering the warm months of summer and should see a decrease in the number of cases being reported. The southern hemisphere may just be at the start of their flu seasons and they are probably seeking a flu vaccination much more aggressively than the people living in the northern parts of the planet. There are about 4,300 cases that have been reported world-wide for the new strain of virus that is sweeping the globe.

I know the Vegas vacations are always popular and Las Vegas might just be the top U.S. spot for vacations. The big cities like Los Angeles and New York get their fair share of tourists coming in for vacations. If you don’t like the big cities; then you probably prefer the mountains or beach for a family vacation. I like going to the beach and this seems like a true vacation to me, but I don’t complain when I do travel to the mountains for a vacation.

I’m not really sure where the top U.S. vacation place may be in America. I’m sure Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and Niagara Falls would be high on the list. I know I would prefer to go to Vegas out of those 3 choices, but I would like to see all 3 some day. I know someone has a list some where of the top vacation spots in America and I bet there is a number one destination for travelers. I’m not aware of where they may be and not really sure where to find a list for travel spots in the USA.

The MTV Movie Awards is fast approaching and many good movies up for the nominees. There are a couple of kid movies making the list this year and it seems some movie fans don’t like this. High School Musical 3 and the new Hannah Montana movie will be two of the ones up for awards this year. I guess the people accepting these awards will be using their best acne pills, if they have to go on stage to accept an award. I haven’t seen either one of these two movies, so I really can’t comment how good they are. I think the best movies should be on the MTV Movie Awards and it doesn’t really bother me if a children’s movie or one geared toward teens makes the list.

I’m not the world’s greatest person to give exercising tips. I prefer to exercise my TV watching skills and I do this a lot. I often find myself eating a lot while watching TV. I’m sure the television commercials don’t help this and they do show some things that make me get hungry. I would probably be better off to take a appetite suppressant before I sat down to watch TV. Do you have this problem while watching television too?

I know the food ads are here to stay and no way could we get them banned off the air. This worked for tobacco products but I don’t think the food industry would be as easy to tackle. I can eat a full meal and still want to snack while watching something on the tube. I guess there is an addiction to snacking on junk food when watching television and I do suffer from this. I really don’t know of a way to cure it and not sure I really want to either. The bad thing is when you don’t have the junk food to snack on and you watch TV all evening and craving something to munch on. I like the sweet treats a lot but the salty peanuts and potato chips are good too. I have an appetite to watch lots of television but I also have the same appetite to eat food while I watch my daily TV.

Did Dr. Pepper Lose Their Famous Soft Drink Recipe?

It’s not clear what was in an old book that a man in Texas bought. Bill Waters was just traveling through the panhandle of Texas; when he found an old ledger filled with formulas in a Texas antique store. He paid 200 dollars for the old tablet and began to notice some strange things in the old book; several different recipes for things like piano polish, cough syrup, and hair restorer. One recipe that caught his eye was for “D Peppers Pepsin Bitters” and this made Mr. Waters do some research on the old book.

He noticed some letterheads were from a Waco Drug Store and while doing research he found it was the first place that Dr. Pepper was sold at and this was W.B. Morrison & Co. Old Corner Drug Store. Charles Alderton was a pharmacist working in the Waco Drug Store and he started selling Dr. Pepper in 1885. The owner of the drug store in Waco, Texas was Wade Morrison. This was the start of the popular soft drink and today millions have tried Dr. Pepper. Also appearing on the cover of the book in faded letters was “Castles Formulas“. John Castles was a part owner of the drug store and was also a drugist there.

The people that run Dr. Pepper today in Plano, Texas says that the recipe is nothing like the 23 flavors that make up Dr. Pepper today. They suggest it might be a formula for something else and perhaps a stomach remedy. The book’s formula for the D Peppers Pepsin Bitters includes things like sweet flag root, syrup, and mandrake root. Apparently these are not the ingredients in the 23 flavors that make up Dr Pepper today. Only 3 people in the whole world know the exact recipe or formula for the 23 flavors in Dr. Pepper.

Does the Old Ledger with Formulas Have Any Value?

Apparently the $200 that Bill Waters spent on the old book while traveling through Texas isn’t a total lost. It is going to go on the auction block May 13th. People interested in obtaining this old ledger that does have historic value can place bids with the Heritage Auction Galleries that is based in Dallas, Texas. The old book that has more than 360 pages and its size is 8 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches is expected to get bids of $50,000 or more. I would think this would be a hot auction item and a lot of Dr Pepper fans may factor in on the price that this old book will eventually sell for. It doesn’t look like there is anything to gain from this book and the famous Dr Pepper recipe, but the historical value of this item is huge. It should be interesting to see what it does auction off for and the sell date right now is for May 13th. Congratulations to Bill Waters, who is 59 years old, for discovering this gem in a antique store in the panhandle of Texas.
